Remy 700 6mm Rem to 6.5 Creedmoor

i've been lurking and learning on this site since, what, January? anyway, the result was that i ordered my upgraded Grendel Entry from AA last week, and realize that i am in for a wait. considering all that Bill A. has done for this cartridge, AA deserves the Grendel business and i'll gladly wait it out.

in the meantime, i have a Remy 700 BDL 6mm, bedded, floated, and lapped, that used to shoot .5 MOA. however, that was almost 20 years ago, and the barrel has suffered enough to call it quits.

i'm very interested in the 6.5 Creedmoor as my new bolt gun and am wondering what complications i may be looking at.

any highly recommended manufacturers that will make a good Remy 700 6.5 Creedmoor barrel?

also, will i be able to keep my original 6mm Rem bolt for the Creedmoor?

i'd like to work up loads and get the Creedmoor running while i await my Grendel. any help here will be appreciated.

I have a couple of 6.5 Creedmoor rifles and have grown very fond of them. In your case all you need to do is change the barrel. If your rifle was shooting .5 MOA before then the bolt is square and true so nothing needs to be done there, it is the same bolt face as the Creedmoor.
There are many really good barrel makers out there, I have a PacNor and a Schnieder barrels on my 6.5 Creedmoors and both of them shoot better than .5 MOA, it is a very easy caliber to get to shoot. In fact all of the factory loads I've tried have done .5 MOA or better. I prefer a cut rifle barrel if I intend to shoot it a lot and I have several Kriegers I've been fully satisfied with and that is probaby the way I would go if I thought I would shoot it more than a thousand ronds a year.

Krieger would be a great barrel my friend has one on his wifes 6.5 creedmoor and its amazing. We also use broughton barrels on our 6.5 remington ultramags and .257 remington ultramags and they are great. im in oklahoma and we use Darin Johnston for our smith work and he does the best work imo.

+ 1 on stokes and bertrunner. I would def. go cut rifled. their are several bartleins supposedly in stock at Grizzly.com. they show in stock anyway. not that im saying thats the only barrel I would use just another one for you to consider.
