An employee with Sierra posted on the 6.5 Grendel reloading Facebook page that they will be releasing a new bullet optimized for the Grendel, the 120 grain tipped Gameking (#4320). The bullet has a G1 BC of .466 and when asked about minimum velocity for expansion he recommended at least 1900fps.

The post was for a few people to test the bullets and I believe I will be receiving a box. It sounded too good to be true, so I called Sierra to confirm, and they provided it is legit.

I will keep you all updated if I receive them!

I talked with a Sierra tech today he told me that minimum velocity for reliable expansion was 1600 fps. Interesting the techs would have two different specs. Will test them out the SBR this year and see how they do.

if i can get them to shoot like the 105 blitzking i will be a happy camper

I just loaded some .308 125gr TGK for 300 blackout for my brother to use on deer. The velocity average of 2315 with chrony. I hope to get a report in a few weeks when season comes in on performance of TGK at lower velocity.

I took a pic of the 120 tgk comparing to others in the standard "stable" of 120 class.
The caliper is set to about OAL of the 120 tgk, 1.308".
Compared to 120 Nosler, 107 TMK, 123 eldm, 120 tgk and the 130 tgk.

More observations.

I get a max OAL of 2.366 in my howa 22"
At 2.290 OAL the breakpoint of the boat tail is half way up the shoulder in the case, so there's some real intrusion down into the case volume. It's a pretty long boat tail too.

I'll be interested to see how they shoot, I'm hoping they do well.

I wonder if Sierra is going to release any load data on this 120 grain Game King. It looks longer than the 120 grain SMK.

I have a length of 1.2008 for the 120 smk, and 1.2835 for the 123 smk.

so... closest to the 123 hpbt smk, but still longer.

so i been sitting here reading what you guys are saying about these 120gr sierra bullets and i am just wondering if this 120gr tipped game king is a lightened up version of the 130gr game changer that sierra makes??

i dont have the 120gr bullets yet to compare them to each other...but i do have and use the 130gr game changer in my creedmoor and it is a lights out deer killer

so i just wonder if sierra designed a good 120gr class bullet to perform just for the grendel and it velocities???

just moving the dust around...sometimes it is not good for me to do that...lol

I received my 500 today and they are indeed a long bullet, and are .587 base to ogive with Hornady 6.5 bushing. Haven’t checked depth to lands on a handful of my Grendel’s, but mocking them up at 2.28 OAL, they’re pretty deep seated and would think highest density powders will be required to get the most out of this bullet. Love AR Comp in Grendel, though expect it might be very compressed, even at 27.0gr, which is my standard working load for 120-123gr bullets. Might be perfect for a moderate Varget load in a 6.5x47, or a light load for new or younger shooters in a 6.5CM. It’s down to the shootin’ now.

Was able to check distance to lands in 20” Proof barrel, and hits lands at 2.31” OAL, so loaded at 2.28” OAL in this barrel-which has a tighter throat than others-will be .030 off lands, and still fit in ASC mags. Continue thinking CFE, Lever, PPV might be my initial powder choices. We shall see soon enough. Encouraging news in my mind.
