Another North Texan!

Hey everyone, I'm joining after much lurking over the years. Primarily I'm looking for good hunting builds that could also be used in very crummy (read: society collapsing) situations. I've admired the grendel for some time now but only recently has the bug bitten me. I have a few build related posts I'll make later today but glad to be here!

Does anyone here know any places in the general south OK, north TX area you can go camping and shooting? Thanks!

Well I've been a long time devotee of 5.56 is fine enough, and it is good! But recently some line of logic hit me. If I want a nice long rifle for hunting maybe I should get something a little bit more powerful for hunting, the 6.5 grendel seemed to be the right balance of performance, weight, and cost! So now I'm all in with 6.5 gren. right now I'm trying to decide if I should build the upper (it would be my first time build) or if I should just buy an upper. I hear the larue get mentioned a lot but I haven't really seen any in depth reviews on it and I'm a little sketched out by the 1/7 twist rate (I plan on using 123-129gr rounds)

Welcome aboard. Nothing wrong with 1/7 twist. Tighter twist makes a lot of sense as the barrel gets shorter.

The older I’ve gotten, the more I lean to buying a complete rifle or upper from people that know what they’re doing.

The hardest thing is the gas block being press-fit to the journal of the barrel for a tight gas seal, as well as having the armorer’s gauges to check that your bolt carrier 3-bore diameters are within spec.
