Ok so I would like to say thanks to everyone that gave input in here. Y'all are great.
I got my first hog! A 175lb female. 60 yard shot. She was nose down facing me, so I aimed right between her eyes. It went through her right one, and she was DRT. W00 W00!
I use a salt brine to make the stingiest pigs eatable.
After de-boning / quartering etc... place a layer of ice in the bottom of your ice chest then lay the meat down on top. Add the remainder of ice. Using rock salt, sprinkle a good layer over the ice. You can apply salt again but should not be needed.
Over the next several days, drain the water and add more ice till water runs clear. Rinse the meat really well before final butchering or the meat will be salty.

This makes sense. The salt will soak up all the stink and bad taste.
But at the moment I only have the heart. I dropped everything else at the butcher earlier today. It was 102 lbs of meat.

It was central Oregon. High desert and mountain terrain. There were trees but there was enough room for us to ride an enclosed UTV on private trails. No blind. Also there was good visibility. We could see up to 300 yds away at times. We searched from the UTV and on foot. Once we spotted her we went on foot. She was busy foraging and we got into a position in front of her. Then my guide simply lined up a perfect head shot for me at 60 yds and even set up a shooting stick. All I had to do was aim and shoot. It was a total rush. Much different than shooting paper, too. And then pulling off the shot and seeing it drop dead in my crosshairs was exhilarating. It's something I'll never forget.

I was under the impression that the hog population over there had been picked clean. Was this the Muddy Ranch area (Antelope), East, NE of Madras? Congratulations!

Hahaha I definitely want to go again, but I think my next hunt is going to be for deer. I also wanna do my duty and get rid of some nutria with my 223 Wylde AR.
