I've been a member here for a few years but never posted on the site. I used a lot of info from the site to learn a bit about the potential and the specifics of this cartridge for use in north Texas whitetail hunting with a bonus for a little hog eradication. I went with an Aero 16" upper trading off the extra velocity for brush handiness as my typical sightline for the properties I hunt is about 125 yards max, haven't shot the rifle much but love the round and the AR platform is only better for the inclusion of this round. I have not currently taken any game with the rifle, I am primarily a bow hunter and prefer to sit with bow in hand but needed a rifle for hunting, needed a rifle for the kids to hunt with and will always take advantage of any situation to put another rifle together.

Anyway, thanks for all the info that has been provided in this great forum.

I am on to a second grendel build now and will be viewing and posting on some threads for info about a 12" suppressed SBR build.

Welcome aboard. 16” is plenty.

Last weekend, I was shooting my 12” out to 800yds, which I have done many times.

At 400yds, it hits the steel hard. You can hear the impact very distinctly.

Thanks for the welcome. I have been nothing but happy with the 16" great rifle and with the limited distance I have had to shoot no worries at all. No real accuracy data on it but it will perform the task intended perfectly fine. I am well into a second, with really only a barrel purchase left. I am debating the monster 12" or the faxon 12". I know PF and others produce some higher-end but really again for the intended purpose and budget in mind I think one of those two will fit the bill. SBR stamp and suppressor over the last couple of years really has me wanting to put together an SBR for suppressed hunting.

I have the Monster 12” manufactured by Green Mountain sold by SixFive Outfitters and I really like mine. If your going to use a suppressor I’d suggest an adjustable gas block or adjustable gas bolt carrier or carrier key.

I am located west of DFW in Parker County. I have been a long time member at Parker County Sportsman's Club as my main range. Third grendel build, hmm... I haven't honestly thought beyond the current build as I believe it and my first (16" Aero upper) should cover my needs and use cases pretty well. I am thinking if the 12" turns out as well as I think it will then it should be a pretty good general purpose and use rifle.

I have also come to realize that one doesn’t need the fastest bullet. An accurate compact and lightweight rifle usually gets the job done better than a rifle with long barrel weighing a bit more.

That’s because one is less tired when the time comes to use the rifle in the field.

Being less fatigued means better control of the sight picture and trigger squeeze.
