Just starting my 6.5 Grendel journey; I have a 6.5 Swede and two Carcanos so excited to have another 6.5 caliber in the mix. I wanted something with a little more horsepower for hog hunting at longer ranges when I'm using my AR. Where I hunt I get a lot of 200-300 yard shots which is fine with my 6.5x55/8x57/30-06 I use but having quick follow up shots would be nice. Starting out with a PSA 20" upper, just waiting for scope mount in the mail and I'll get it sighted in. The lower is a Ruger MPR that I really like. I'm now in Texas, but grew up in Virginia hunting the Jefferson National Forest close by every day after school during hunting season.

Houston area, the Academy me by usually has some Grendel in stock and that was another factor tipping the scales in it's favor.

West Houston, I do my sighting in at American Shooting Centers so if you see a guy with assorted old milsurps it might be me, or maybe one of the other various people with assorted old milsurps.

Nothing wrong with military surplus stuff. It's time proven to work. Many many years ago I purchased a pair of German boots that lasted 25 years. All my gear came from surplus stores. Haven't been to a store in many years. You still get good stuff?

As far as clothes/gear, I think my favorite pieces are my Swedish Army field coat (goes well with my M96 Mauser), East German army field shirt (has that interesting rain drop camo pattern), and then an Italian Army rucksack I use as a range bag. The rucksack cost about 9 dollars and is sturdy enough that my descendants in 150 years could still probably use it.

We need a like button.
When hunting, I still use a military surplus cold weather coat, with the liner, from the early 1980s. With a little Scotchgard, especially on the attached hood, this coat is perfect when the weather is going to be wet. I suspect that coat is older than many of the members of this forum.

Haven't done much shooting with them, just have what I've been able to scrounge which is PPU 139 grain FMJ and 123 grain SP, Norma 156 grain Alaska, and finally got a back ordered box of the Steinel 134 grain. The PPU 123 grain SPs don't feed well at all, wish they'd just load those projectiles in 6.5 Grendel instead since I know they're .264.

Welcome to the forum from another new guy in Middle Georgia. Sounds like ya got a lotta prospective new friends over in your neck of the woods. You might check with Sarco from time to time they get some Carcano in. I keep checking with Academy for the Grendel, but the local shops are all $40 and above...
