Pendleton Stock Field Test

The first week of December I will field test a Pendleton Classic C stock made for the Howa Mini. I will be hunting bears in the "Switzerland of Virginia" Highland County, VA. Elevation in that area of the Allegeny Mountains ranges from 1500ft to 4500ft and I could be romping around on any or all of it while in hot pursuit of bears with dogs. My goal is to determine how much less fatigued I am carrying a lighter rifle. The stock itself is expected to weigh nearly a pound less than the B&C. I'll be sure to keep a daily journal and take plenty of pics. For those of you who have plowed this row before, what other data points should I take in account?

Looking forward to your report. I would be interested in what gear you are carrying with you and their weight, what foot ware,sling, method of carry, binos, flashlight, first aid stuff for you and the dogs, head gear, back pack, etc. How many miles you walked, general weight, age and health status.
I'm not a hunter but have marched many miles with an AR in the past. The things that helped me out the most were good boots with inserts and premium socks, Gator-aid, comfortable back pack and the sling with a method of carry that the rifle didn't dig into my back. One pound plus or minus was minor compared to the total load carried and how it was distributed on the body.

Ha Ha, funny! My questions about your physical condition are just to evaluate when you report that you walked 25 miles and you are 82 years old, weigh 350 lbs and a 80 pound back pack and the new stock made it possible. I put forth that the older, less fit you are, the more a 1 lb. difference makes. If you care to, general stats are fine (25-30 years old, average fitness, etc.)
If we need to put out an Amber alert about a missing hunter abducted by a bear, the brown eyes will be of help.

I'm 45 and 196lbs. I can run 2 miles in about 20 minutes, do 50 pushups in 2 mins and 50 situps in 2 mins. I easily pass my PT test every 6 months but my scores are not stellar.

I won't carry more than 4lbs of gear with me. The gun will be between 6-7 lbs loaded but I will weigh it for the evaluation. I'm a virgo.

Remember the saying, best laid plans of mice and men often go awry? That's the case with this field test. UPS has pushed delivery back again. This time to Monday, 30 Nov. I have to depart on Sunday, 29 Nov...

I'll find a way to test it the best I can despite this setback.

It once had the Hornady name and logo on it. It's all worn off now. It's just a rubber slip on ball.

I hunted with a Howa Mini 6.5 Grendel equipped with Pendleton Composite Stock (PCS) for 3 days this week in Highland County while chasing bears with dogs. I'll do my best to list the details of each day and plug in pictures where they fit into the scheme of things.

30 NOV (Day 1): Rainy and average temp of 50deg. Two guys drove the "high road" with the dogs in the truck boxes hoping to strike a hot trail. After a slow 12 mile ride and a few short hikes they didn't strike anything and they headed back to camp for the day. During that time my job was to stay on the "low road" and watch to see if the dogs chased a bear across from down off the mountain. I walked only about 2 miles that day and most of that was just walking the gravel roads to stay active and awake. Carrying the Howa rifle equipped with the PCS was a breeze.
