I have wanted a 50 Beowulf since I first saw one on TV. Finally had the chance, ordered a 6.5 Grendel UU Kit from LaRue, got a barrel from X Caliber barrels and went to work! I had to take the upper receiver to a machine shop to get the ejection port opened up to 0.620 so the cases would fit through it. I got it put together and initially it was grossly overgassed! Ordered an H3 buffer and a Tubbs Flatwire spring and now it cycles like a dream. Even with a large multiport muzzle brake the recoil is like shooting a 12ga with 3 inch mags or stout loads out of a 45-70! It is very light carbine at this point. A LaRue UU kilt in 5.56 is about a pound heavier. Impressive to see the bullets impact targets and it would be the perfect backup gun for all manner of big nasty critters!

What kind of performance do you get?
I have a 16" 450 Bushmaster, awesome deer gun out to 250 or so yds, 250 FTX @2300 fps, very accurate by the way, 1" or most times better for 3 shots at 100yds off a bipod.
Will also be a tag along in Grizz country with 11 rds in mag and one in the pipe. Haven't decided/tested "Grizz" loads/bullets yet but will def. Be something more heavily constructed than most .452 bullets..... maybe one of the Barnes.
Read of a guy that used the 275 gr Barnes to hunt Grizzlies with and seemed to work great.
Light little carbine with lots of firepower.
Sure your 50 is just as capable ...and sounds like you are already loving it!!!

I do not have any sights on it yet, just function testing so far. Look at the Lehigh Defense Xtreme Penetrator line. They have load data also. The bullets are solid brass and look like a Philips head screwdriver bit with the tip ground flat but they just do not stop when you shoot something with them!

Had a guy send me some of the Lehigh bullets in 9mm for testing... while i understand the idea behind the design... same as a WFN design hardcast. I was not impressed with the sample i had for testing.
Being a solid copper bullet, pressure was more than a lead cup/core or cast bullet which limited velocity.
The sample i had was also all over in diameter which ruined accuracy and ES in velocities.
This may have contributed to the tumbling in penetration test media, although (possibly same undersize problem) read of others test that resulted in tumbling also.
Would like to test another sample.....
Have not tested cast bullets in AR (gas gun) platform yet. Have heard others having gas cutting problems with plain base bullets or checked bullets with check narrower than gas port....
I machined a 215 WFN mold for 45 SUPER that works extremely well , need to see if i can make it work in 450.
With a .38 meplat it produces a 1"+ "hole" through deer at 1400 fps.
I have a 240 gr 45 cal mold i machined with slightly smaller meplat that would work well also if cast will work in gas gun....

I had not heard of the Lehigh bullets tumbling. I have not shot to many but the ones I did out of my Glock 19 and my wife's Sig 239 were accurate. The one video I saw on Youtube they were going through 6 gallon jugs and 32 inches of Ballistic Gell without stopping from a 9mm. The solid copper and brass bullets usually will not be able to match lead core weight for weight for velocity due to pressure. Everything I have read about them recommends going down in weight as you do not lose weight on impact. That will not make near as much difference at the lower velocities with the rounds. As far as I know cast bullets will work in a gas gun but I have no experience with them either the 215 WFN sounds interesting.

I've had a Beowulf for 15 years (many years before a Grendel) 16" Alexander upper. A real thumper and I use a tungsten heavy buffer with a standard spring.

Where can I find load data for the Beowulf?? I'd like to run 1680 or 2200 powder with 350-450gr bullets
