Thinking of getting a grendel for my 10yo girl to hunt with. Maybe even play with it my self if she lets me.
She has a 223 m4 now that she shoots. I was going to get a 6.5 upper for her and let her go hunting.
Question is how is recoil compared to a 223? I see that the grendel doesn't have bad recoil but I would assume it has harder recoil than a 223.

Recoil is about 25-30% greater by the numbers.
I don't even notice the difference when I switch between a 20" Grendel and a 16" .223.

Howdy!
6.5 is a great choice for a hunting rifle. I would suggest you try to build it as similar to her M4 as possible to keep the familiarity.

Know any good builders or parts suppliers? I would like to get her a 6.5 upper like the m4. With a good muzzle brake.

AA makes them. I don't know if they have them in stock, but it's worth a check.
I bought a Warped Industries compensator for my AA 19.5 Grendel upper. Works like a dream, and since it's non-directional, you don't need an action block, barrel vise and tons of force to install it. No need for indexing.

I've got a 16" J&T Distributing 6.5 Grendel which has the heavy barrel and Phantom FH/Brake. J&T also has a DS4 barrel which is like a M-4 barral with grenade launcher notch. This barrel would be a little lighter than mine. AA also has M-4 style 14 1/2 inch barrel with muzzle brake plus 16" barrels.
Welcome! It's great to hear your daughter is already a hunter. She should be alright on the recoil, it has been a while since I was 10... and I cant say I was ever a girl but I'd like to think she could handle it. I'd say mine feels to be just a bit lighter than a 20 gauge shotgun. Nothing serious but you get a little shove. I am using an 18" upper from loki weapon systems and love it. I have a ace skeleton stock with a standard buffer so I am getting about as much recoil as possible out of the gun and i'd still say she'll be alright. I would recommend Loki to anyone thinking about a grendel.
