thanks for the information about the grendel. Is BFT a handle of a member here?

I plan to hand load for some california hog and deer hunting here. I also like to shoot targets at some distance, about 800 yards or so.

I have a radical firearms 24 inch upper with a vortex scope. i have about 20 years reloading in various calibers.

one thing i have unfortunately noticed, is that i believe my grendel upper is short chambers to the throat of the barrel. I am getting much less OAL when reloading compared to the manuals.

any one here have this issue with a radical firearms upper? i think i purchased it new in like 2017?

I think my options are to try and get it reamed or to get a different barrel for the time being. with this virus lockdown its gonna be a while before i can enjoy the rifle anyway.

bft = bluntforcetrauma - he's one of the moderators of the forum. there are several threas across these chapters about throating issues with barrels ( or a bolt mismatch ), When you purchased the upper, did the bolt come with it? Can you measure the depth of the bolt face ( should be .136in deep ).

John, Thanks for chiming in and letting me know. I will check out the bolt face. I contacted radical firearms and they sent me the RMR to send the upper back to them. I have a feeling its gonna be a while. Also the upper was complete, came with bolt as well. I will have time tomorrow to measure the bolt, then ill post readings here.

I also have a bear creek arsenal 16" upper, it seems to chamber everything i feed it just fine. But i am sure gonna miss the 24 heavy barrel of that Radical while its gone...

My first time to the range with my Grendel, i brought my rem 700 sps tactical in 308 win. the grendel out shot that remington all day longs... i was a bit upset, cause i have spent alot of time developing loads and shooting with my 308, now i dont want to even own it. Live and learn that is a part of life.

G9, all such toys have their place. I have a good friend who hunt Africa almost every year and swears by the 308. But, he also has stories about when things didn't go quite as planned. Some are "exciting!"? Keep us posted on what you find.

So the bolt is .136 deep face. It will chamber brass and varmint rounds fine, but 100 grain or heavier won't chamber. The bullet hits the rifling, cause when I eject the round the bullet stays in the barrel.

Sent barrel back and Radical firearms claims to have reamed and test fired 4 rounds... Got It back loaded the few Lehigh defense test rounds and it gets stuck in the chamber...

So I'm thinking to have a local gun Smith team a few thousands out of the throat. My other Grendel loads em just fine...

I thought radical was going to be honest. Guess not
