I saw these listed as seconds for a good price. Anyone have any experience? I have never purchased seconds, nor have I tried the 107 SMK, which kinda looks like these.

Wonder what kind of defects are the norm and if they would make a decent hunting bullet?

I shoot a lot of 107SMK’s in my Grendel and they are superb.

Have not tried factory seconds.

Zero experience with hunting with that combo.

I have used literally thousands of factory seconds bullets from a number of manufacturers. Most seconds have nothing wrong with them. I worked in a manufacturing plant years ago making small electronic parts. As parts (bullets too) come out of the machines a inspector is constantly monitoring the down stream quality. If something is amiss, the inspector stops the machine. The parts that came out since the last inspection are then removed from the conveyor and placed into bins. The problem is diagnosed and the machine is started again, slowly, and the machine is readjusted until in spec parts are being produced again. The set up parts are also placed in bins. Only after in spec parts are being produced will the manufactured parts be allowed to flow down the assembly line. In the case of bullets, most have cosmetic issues. Points not perfect, perhaps a wrinkle in the jacket, etc. Seconds are perfect for load development, plinking and general shooting. I, personally, would not use them in a match or any other use that would require pristine accuracy.

I was watching them too, just bought 1k. I can't find a reason not to, inside 500, I highly doubt we'll notice any fault in the projectile anyway. My experience with seconds is that they are as good for trigger time as accepted projectiles, and that any blem is likely due to them being set up or diagnosis runs. They're typically fine, with a few bullets in the lot that are obviously sub-standard. A good inspection of them (time on your part) will result in a few culls, which can be used for short range plinking later.

My 500 arrived a day ago.
Some of the tips have a slight angle aprox 60 degrees instead of 90.
Loaded a bunch with ppv, 8208, tac and ar comp.
At 22 cents will be ordering more if I can get to group.

They are likely 107 SMK's. For about 20 cent's a bullet delivered. Unless they are pretty defective, that's a great deal - I ordered some.

The 107SMK?s shoot lights out in my 16 & 18 inch Oden uppers.

Didn?t test for speed, not a speed freak.......99% of the time I can find a midrange published that shootsgreat.

I just haven?t found the need to run anywhere close to max loads....not worth the worry for me

Ran down to PV today to get my order. Out of my 1k, I opened one box, and dug for 10 random pills to measure. Weight, base(of bullet) to ogive, overall length, and diameter. I was surprised only by the variation in the ogive numbers, and again by how consistent the remaining measurements were. I'm happy with this, perhaps some of you chaps can tell me how these aren't worth the money?

Thanks for the post! Interesting, I wonder why they are listed as factory seconds? Look like good bullets to me, though I guess 10 thousandths variation in ogave might be it? I don't know what's really standard on that. To me, these seem like a pretty good deal for about 20 cents a bullet. Those weights are very consistent to me.

They are. Loaded 50, all 50 were 107-107.2 the .2 being the case twice. The ogive difference is pretty big though. Given that, I think that’s it. Probably not a good long range option as the bc will be pretty different bullet to bullet. However loading them to the same COAL was pretty easy, so maybe not? Ha! Time will tell.

I ordered a few boxes of this as well, since my Grendel seems to like 107 SMK's better than most bullets. Grabbing a handful I found the weights to be quite consistent. In comparison to boxed proper 107 SMKs, these looked to have the same shape, and probably are indeed SMK's, but they all were a little bit longer, and all were a little bit duller in shine. I'm guessing they are 107 SMKs either out of spec due to that batch being too long - or maybe Sierra skipped a final tip-trimming step. The bullet lengths themselves I didn't measure, but they did all look very consistent in the handful I had grabbed. I'm guessing by them being a little longer, the ogave is going to be further back, so there's likely going to be a little different bullet-jump with them for a standard 2.250" mag-length OAL load.

Does anyone have any accuracy reports with this bullet yet? My expectation is that these should shoot about as good as factory first SMKs.

I just bought a box of these from midway. Will be testing them out this weekend. Initial measurements of length and weight seem to be consistent with what is reported. Looks like to me the color of the bullets is different maybe darker than what they would normally be.
