Cz-527
hm2 clark Wrote:Hooz, when you get that CZ scope rail will you let me know how much it adds to the heigth of rings?
I bought it a long time ago, but my Dad currently has it two states away. He's looking to duplicate it, only with 20MOA of elevation built-in. I'll see if he can send me the measurments.

I understand that "Diversided Inovative Products" makes a 20 MOA scope rail for the 527..But...Then you will want to put a big honking scope on that little rifle. Somthing in say, 36x with a 56mm objective. Before you know it you will add 3 maybe 4 lbs. You'll wake up some morning and say "I could have done the same thing to an old 98 mauser and the weight would be about the same":-)

Yeah. Looking for action-appropriate optics is proving to be a chore. I wanted the extended rail for placment more than anything, but a 20MOA mount would be nice for both subsonic 300 BLK and long-range 6.5 Grendel.

Lots of good info here, thanks. I'm looking at doing this also. A 6.5 Grendel 527 seems like a great option for a deer rifle. Now to start the long, painful process of figuring out how to go about it.

Nothing long and painful about it. Just a barrel install on the 7.62x39 527, and you're done, unless you go with a build from the ground up starting with the action. There's not much reason to do that with the options CZ has, since you can go with a wooden, laminate, or their Kevlar stock. I must say, that is one sexy stick. I think they would sell like crack Grendelized.

I have a 527 Carbine in 7.62x39 ready to go. I know it's just a rebarrel, but I meant the process of figuring out who to get the barrel from, who does the work, deciding on the barrel options, etc..

My intent is to use this for a lightweight deer rifle. I'm also going to want it threaded for a suppressor.

You have lots of choices. When I rebarrel my 527 again I will probably use the "off the shelf" drop in 20" sold and (probably) in stock from Competatiin Shooting Sports. I is in the standared 527 taper allready so it will be simpler.

The only thing I do not like about my CZ is the magazine, wish it was flush. I also had to reverse the spring in the three that I have so that more pressure is placed at the rear of the cartridges so the bolt would pick them up...

I looked at those, but they are the sporter taper, not the varmint contour, and CZ rebarrel jobs really require a gunsmith either way. SAOD offers barrels in the varmint contour, and I think they're even Lothar Walther barrels.

As for who to use to rebarrel the action... That's a good question. McGowen and Pac-Nor are two that I found, but a lot of 'smiths don't/won't do work on Mausers. McGowen and Pac-Nor both offer "accurizing packages" as well as their own barrels in whatever contour you like.

Johnnyreb, RBV Percision offers a flush magazine conversion. I think Mr Calhoon also may. Hooz, I like my Walther Grendel barrel but I like my Pac-Nor Grendel barrel more.

Me too, I"ve been reluctant to comment on Walther Lothar 6.5 barrels, but I ordered one for my son and it shoots four shot groups of .5" and five shot groups of 1.25". There is always one flyer out of five. My PacNor barrels shoot five shot groups of .5" all day long. none of this is material to a woods rifle used under 250 yards, it really doesn't matter if it is a .5" pr 1.25" rifle both are good enough for this use.
But for me, I don't like flyers.

That's why I went with McGowen. I personally know a bunch of local guys who run their barrels in a variety of calibers (.338, .308, etc) and they ALL shoot well. I figured if I was going to pay to have the action worked over and have a full custom barrel put on, I might as well get it done all at the same place.

If my 300 BLK barrel from McGowen is a shooter (and I expect it to be), I won't hesitate to send them my 527 Grendel project.

I first heard about this years ago from a very prominent long-range shooter, who said the benchrest crowd seemed to have this phenomenon with the 6mm and 6.5mm LW pipes. I've seen it with 6mm LW, but most of the .338 LM pipes I tested were able to group 1/2" after a few break-ins. Kriegers almost always shot super-tight groups right out of the pen.

yea or howa would be my vote. just so long as there is good bottom metal available and it's not a micro 700 with its silly fingernail of an extractor washer of a recoil lug (not that the grendel is hard recoiling anyway, i just like integral ones like the surgeon and win) i'll be in for somthin from someone. but the CZ really needs no modification at all!

And all along I thought my flyers were just a reloading issue. In reality, since I use my 527 as a deer hunting rifle it matters little to me if the 5th round is a flyer (if you can call a 1.25 moa Flyer); If I miss the deer with my first 4 rounds and it is still hanging around I just sneak a little closer and shoot again.

have you ordered or received your 6.5 grendel from the custom shop yet? if so how does it shoot?

I plan on using mine for deer hunting, so I'd like to keep it light. But I also want at least a mid-weight barrel because I will be using it with a suppressor, and I need a good shoulder for the suppressor to index against.

Anyone know of any good aftermarket stock options? I'm not completely sold on the idea of using the Varmint Kevlar stock for a hunting rifle. Not sure I like the palm swell. I think I'm starting to lean toward just inletting the original wood stock.

Don't know if everyone's anti Ruger but they also produce a 7.62x39 model. Model HM77CR manu# 37141. It's their compact hawkeye model.

Dropped my 527 off with a local smith three weeks ago. He quoted six weeks, and I know he got on it fast. I wouldn't be surprised if I have it within two weeks.

I have a question with these rifles.

Do the .223/204 models have the same magazine well as the 7.62x39? Worded differently, will 7.62x39mm mags fit in a .223 or visa/versa?
