My First grendel build

built my first 20" grendel and thinking about doing a 24 inch build later on , im mostly just a target shooter with a lil hunting now and then
still a work in progress at this point , i have a matching skeletonized lower i need to put on among some other anodized parts

my long range/day setup is an ade 6-25x56 scope
and my night setup is an atn x sight pro 4k 5-20 with a sniper hog lights coyote cannon illuminator

anything past 1400 with the atn just gets to blurry when i zoom in

ive shot the same and further with the ade 5-25 just cant record video like i can with the atn need to pick up one of those target camera setups


been shooting hornaday black eld-m out of it does pretty good

yeah at 5 bucks and some change a box of the wolf i had to try it , eventually ill be loading my own but for now with as good as the black eld-m has done im happy with it till i can pick up dies and everything else i need to reload.
i shot that group right after sighting in the atn scope , can cut the size of it almost in half with the normal glass scope
ive got the rest of the purple parts coming , dust cover , forward assist , safety, mag catch/release and trigger guard.I may take the purple gas block off and switch to an adjustable black block and have the barrel done n a matching purple gun candy to even out the color from front to rear

got to shoot a lil today , mostly was working on my boss,s 5.56 but i grabbed my grendel and shot 10 rounds at 186 yards

the moment i squeezed the trigger i knew i pulled that one shot (top left), was the very first shot of the 10 round group cant wait till my new trigger gets here been using a cheap crappy milspec trigger

Wow looks good! What barrel did you end up using? Im currently building an upper and cant decide on a barrel.

been playing with some reloads with eld-m 123g bullets with 4895 powder shoots just as good as the black eldm so far
couldnt get my hands on any 8208 so i ordered some power pro varmint to try out with some lighter bullets

forgot i had a new picture with one of the ir setups on it

one of these days ill finish my skeletonized lower and put the rest fo the purple anjodized parts on , probably when my new single stage 3lb trigger arrives late this week

got to test some handloads today and
26g of 4895 got me a rounded 2400fps average pushing 123g eldm's out of the 20 inch barrel
27g of the same got me a rounded average of 2525fps and had a much better group but starting to show slight pressure signs so cant push them any harder

factory hornaday black eldm had an rounded average of 2600fps

so im done with trying the 4895 in the grendel, on tuesday my new powder will be here and ill start on some loads with it

got all my balistics info in got the weather/wind stuff setup , lasered the gong at 537y and it was dead on

ty , still working on it , ill have my skelotinized lower ready to go on the gun in the next week or so , and then i can put on the rest of the anodized parts on it , if i could stop shooting the darn thing id have the barrel off and send it out to get done in a matching purple , that might happen now that ive been playing with my new creedmoor , and ccw gun i picked up this week

I'm offended.

I've never been a fan of the Skeletonized parts. Especially the grips. It looks like a hamburgerfist maker. (Say it in Colonel Huntgerschmidt's waffen accent) I find the ability to make the AR truly yours and unique is one of it's most endearing assets. No two must be alike, though we try to copy what we like.

I'm glad you're almost done, there's a really great moment when a build finally comes together as intended. I call it the "done" moment, even though we all know no build is ever truly done...
