at home for lunch and the stuff from midsouth just showed up , after lunch ill go load up some rounds and shoot soome groups with them at 100 and see how they do

Ran a small qty of 123gr Nosler CC?s at 62d and 1200 ft altitude. 28.5gr PPV, CCI 41 primer, 2.26? OAL. 5@2413 avg, 6.2 SD. Not the velocity I was expecting, but good chrono numbers.

my grendel does not apear to like the mid south monster match bullets
first round group of 5

on the other hand the 6.5 cm shot the best it ever has using the same load ive been using witht he eld-m's in it

so im going to order a 500 pack of the mid south stuff for the cm but ill snag a few more to play with in the grendel to see if i cant improve the group before i buy any more eld-m'd for the grendel , that 250count bag of them i just bought should last me atleast a lil while

quick question if u leave the load the same and increase oal but pick up roughly 80fps what does that mean? I loaded to max mag length today rounds chamber and extract unfired without issues without leaving marks on the bullets accuracy increased a lil bit as well

Your pressure increased slightly because the bullet is starting much closer to the rifling now.

Only two things increase velocity. Powder charge and having the jump close too the lands are touching them.

This is why you need the tools to accurately measure each bullets jump.

Midwayusa sells them.

Hornady o.a.l gauge, hornady grendel modified case, set of calipers, also get the hornady bullet comparator tool and headspace tool.

Lil searching on midway's website will produce them. It's all made by hornady, well expect the calipers but you can get them there as well.

thanks i have a good set of starett calipers already , everything i do reload for i normally just stuck but what my book would tell me for it this is prolly the first one ive goten a lil more indepth with

put my glass scope back on and sighted her in while doing 5 shot groups and chrono readings

ty , im prolly sticking with the 28.5g load at 2.255 oal i dont think i can get much better then that i gota rember to measure that group with the calipers tommorow
im going to order some 108 Grain Scenar OTM bullets here next to see how those do i was going to try some 120's but they are so close to the 123's i dont think its worth my time messing with them

i think the 108's may work out pretty good might even be tempted to try those out in my 6.5cm as well

loaded up another 20 last night to be sure it wasnt a fluke , also figure out that depending on were i sat at my bench would throw my scale off slightly.If i zeroed my scale and then moved my chair left or right on the floor it would change the scale slightly so im now doing all my powder measuring not at the bench should be able to tighten up my speed differences from round to round.if everything checks out that 28.5 is were im keeping my load for the 123g eld-ms

cant wait to stay playing with the 108g stuff next , though i pick up my new long barrel 6.5cm tommorow so i may be playing with that for a lil while before i get back to the grendel

Took out a box of ammo i loaded before i changed were i was measuring powder charges . was supposed to be a 28.5g load they all shot in the 2410-2420fps area saved a round so i could pull the bullet and wiegh the powder charge on onother scale to compare pretty sure its just the floor were i reload when i move around at the bench after zeroing the scale but wont hurt to dbl check the scale itself

something is wrong with my scale , yesterday when i was doing some loads for my creedmoor i was weighing out powder and went over so i took some powder out of the pan , and sure enough i put more powder back in it then i took out before it read that it was 40.4g , took the pan off the scale put it back on still said it was right ,so i dumped the powder in a case and marked it , went out shot those 5 rounds saving the marked one for last first 4 i didnt suspect all shot right around 2810fps like within a few fps of each other , marked round shot at 2983 fps.

then i had two more in my next group of 5 at a higher charge(41.8 which should be going 2900 were i had 2 of them shoot in the 2675 range


needless to say i bought a frankford arsenal digital scale to start dbl checking everything , may just use it for my main scale

im not loading for anything till that scale gets here on tuesday

checked alot of them against the beam scale and the beam scale was all over the place , verified the digital scale with both a 123g bullet and the calibration wieghts

You might want to carefully examine the knife edges on your beam scale. Little dings and burs will royally screw up the scale's accuracy and repeatability. You can carefully dress the edges with a very fine ceramic stone and quite likely restore the scale. Cleaning the agates with de-natured alcohol and q-tips is something to be done regularly also.

+1 to Mad Charlie?s comment. That, or a Parker tuned Redding or RCBS scale. I too went to an electronic Gempro, and after fighting its inconsistency, returned to vendor for a full refund. Hate to say, but margin of error for your new scale is likely +/- .1 grains or so. I do use a small electronic to measure case weights, but that?s limit of my confidence.
Like where you?re trying to go with PPV, found 2406ish and low SD at 28.5 and 123CC?s. Need to explore higher charge weights. PPV flows like water and very consistent in BR30 powder measure.
