Target crown or flash hider

hey guys im currently building a grendel with a 24" tube. it comes threaded for a flash hider but was wondering what would be better. This will be a range gun punching paper. Im looking for the most accuarcy at long range(600-1k).

What exactly is the difference between the two and why is the crown better for longrange. Which one is better for recoil reduction.

A flash hider does nothing for recoil. All it does is help control the buring gasses that exit the barrel, which takes away the muzzle flash. More important in combat or when poaching than anything else .... LOL.

If you are strictly looking for recoil reduction, then a muzzle brake is the way to go. It directs the gases coming out of the barrel in a direction that counteracts the felt recoil. A muzzle brake also helps keep the muzzle from jumping every time you shoot. This type of muzzle device is good for really large calibers like the .50 BMG. Unfortunately, they tend to be much louder than a flash hider or plain barrel. They also tend to give away your position because they kick up dust with the directed gasses exiting the barrel.

From what I understand (and I could be wrong .... I'm sure someone will come along and correct me if I am). A target crown on a barrel helps direct the gasses (exiting the barrel) around the bullet as it leaves the barrel. It helps to equalize the pressure on all sides of the bullet and help stabilize the bullet better. Which, equates to better accuracy farther down the line.

What I like about the WCI brake is that it directs the gases out in 360 degrees and also pushes the gases out the front on all sides of the bullet. It also has a slight crown on the end. You get the recoil reduction of a muzzle brake along with the stabilization of the target crown.

Im curious about this as well, does anyone know. Kies makes threaded barrel thats crowned. Im wondering how that works if it has a muzzle brake or flash hider on it.

I would be perfectly happy with a non-threaded muzzle regarding performance, but my rifles usually ride in the passenger seat of the truck with muzzle down against the floor mat. Trips are usually short since I hunt and shoot very close to home, but the ride can be bumpy offroad. Thus, I prefer a muzzle device to protect the crown.

Im curious about this as well, does anyone know. Kies makes threaded barrel thats crowned. Im wondering how that works if it has a muzzle brake or flash hider on it.

I have two of them, one on my .223 and the other on my grendel. With them I can see the bullet, whereas I can't with if I take them off and use my thread protector with the 11 degree crown. Also, sees to be quieter with the comp on.

As far as accuracy goes there is no difference, the flash hider does nothing to help and nothing to hurt. I prefer a crowned barrel with no flash hider, but it is just that, personal preference.

I say threaded with a thread protector. Then you can switch back and forth with a brake if you want. Myself I use a JP enterprises TRE comp. I like it

I run my Grendel with an AAC 51T flash hider and 762SD can and it shoots < .3 MOA like that.
