After a frustrating hunt of watching large hogs on the neighbor's property, I moved on to another area and finally found one I could legally shoot. The downsides were a very bright moon, lot of open ground, and wind that was light, but definitely blowing toward the hog. On the good side, the hog was down hill from me and very preoccupied with eating all the acorns he could get.
I made a strongly quartered away shot that penetrated a distance of approximately 14" (taped) before the jacket was stopped under the opposite side scapula. The core was lost inside the body. In the process, the bullet went through a rib on both sides, shredded a lobe of the liver and damaged the right lung. There was also an exceptional amount of bleeding inside of the body.
