Just picked up a Leupold VX-R Patrol 3-9 x 40 for $ 399 off of SWFA sample list. They also have the AR Mod 1 for $ 249. Almost bought the AR Mod 1 but decided to use the buy once cry once theory. Noticed on the Leupold website that the Mark Ar Mod 1 3-9 with green firedot is " No longer for sale"
Ilya from optics thoughts ranked the VX-R close the Vortex Razor. I will let you know what I think in a few days.

I love mine. I just traded my PRO for it, and other than the SFP, I'd say it makes a darn good 0-800 optic. I'm going out this evening to try some low light, but I actually think if it even remotely compares to my VX5, then I'm way ahead. 15.7 oz, decent turrets. It's not a spinner, but it's capable.

I owned a Razor HD 1-6 and a Patrol 1-4 at different times, but I can say with certainty the glass on the Patrol is nice. Before I picked out the Patrol I compared it to a Vortex Viper PST and the image looked similar, which is to be expected given the pricepoints.
The reason to buy a Leupold Patrol is the best in class weight. A big drawback is the exposed turrets (standard VXR scopes have caps, as well as minimalist reticles) which don't lock. I don't do any dialing with my 1-4 so I can't speak to its repeatability.
Per Gun.deals, TombstoneTactical has the best prices on the Patrol.

I love my VX-R Patrol 3-9x40 and was this close to ordering one of the VX-Rs at $399. I just don't have a rifle to put it on, so I figured I should hold off.
If you're in the market for a scope in the $400 range, the VX-R is really hard to beat!

Add to cart to drop it down to $430, new. I'm sure the samplelist.com demo scope is fine for $30 less.

I love mine. I've had it on an lightweight hunting AR-10 and it works very well in that role. I bought it NIB in May 2018 for $323.99...a seller on eBay had them for $373.99 and I had $50 in eBay Bucks. The only issue was that there was significant light bleed in the reticle (where it wasn't supposed to be) so Leupold changed out the reticle quickly. I was very impressed with their service.

I have been looking at the Leupold vxr 3-9 patrol with the TMR reticle. Only having seen the reticle online, the hash marks look a little thick. Do they look different in person ?

I have the 3-9 VXR Patrol with TMR.
The hash marks are thick, but I would say better for hunting, with the firedot illuminating the center, works great.
I have shot this scope at a 600yd F-class target, but you have to work to keep it in the 10-ring at that distance.

I have a vxr tired of 4-12x40 and a 3-9?4040 vxr freedom ar3e w for reticle. First of had been an awesome optic.. can't really speak on the freedom ar though; my astigmatism made it unusable for me so its been on armslist ever since.

You're not going to spin the turrets on these like you will a more PRS or competition quality optic. But, you absolutely can turn them when needed. Hence, my sentiment that it's not a "spinner".
