Rem 700SA 6,5 Grendel project.

Really nice project and great rifle you have there, thanks for sharing. I was going to do something similar on a M7 action I had laying around along with AR15 magazine bottom metal, but then the Howa Mini came out and I started playing with those.

Second, settling for a hunting rifle with your performance, and considering the platform, I would be - and am - envious to have such a thing. Good work.

What kind of pressure sign are you seeing in your brass at those velocities with the 140? I'm assuming Lapua brass? Forgive me, you've probably already said, but I am not taking the time here to go back 5 pages and read. Call me lazy. It'd be fair...

Really feel that the result with this gun really have surprised me.
Happy to have done the work.

Have some small pressuresigns but not that bad. On some brass, no signs at all.
Load is 27,8gr of VV N140. Lapua brass yes.

Speed with the 140gr ELD-M and this barrellength is ~2264fps (690m/s)

What mag is that? And did you have to do any adjustments to it to get it too properly feed the grendel rounds?

A 700 remmy in grendel is on the dream rifle list at the moment.

But with the shorter 108gr Scenar, it can get problimatic. Especially if I dont handle the bolt with determination. If I handle the bolt slowly, the round ”nose dive”.
I’ve reworked the beginning of the barrel a little but problem still exist with the short bullet.

What's the coal with the 108 scenar?

Maybe a longer coal would place enough bullet weight and length out forward enough to allow it to feed better?

Since I measure the length on the ogive, I havent any data for COL available right now.
I have the data for COL somewhere but need to dive in the loadbook.

For the 108gr bullet I have 0,2mm (0.0078") of jump. Longer COL will not work or I will jam the bullet hard into the lands.
But with heavier bullets, like the 140gr ELD-M the COL increases enough to feed better.

So the project will now continue.

I will reuse a Kreiger 6,5mm barrel in HV-profile from another rifle.
The barrel is in 1:8 twist and will end up in probably 25" or so when it is done.

The throat will be a bit longer so that I can use a little more case capacity so that the current loads doesn?t need to be compressed.

Bullets will be the 108gr Scenar that I have a few hundreds of and also the heavy 140gr ELD-M from Hornady.
I?ve used theese two bullets in the current setup with the short Jury-barrel and the plan is to use them in the Krieger.

The short Jury-barrel will be kept for hunting since the Kriger will be a bit to hefty to carry around in hunting situations.

Will keep the project updated later on.

Have a barrel wise at home and the short Jury-barrel have been removed.

Now the Krieger-barrel and the action is sent to the gunsmith and now I can only wait...

The plan for this Krieger is to extend the throat about 2,5mm (0,098").
This will allow for the longer bullets to be seated with more case clearance.

This Krieger have in previous calibers been very fast.
Both the 6,5x55 and the 6,5 Creedmoor gave very high speeds.

If this will apply also for the Grendel will be interesting to see.

Thought that I could post a picture from last night when I got the Grendel assembled again.
The gunsmith was not finish with the Krieger and there is a 300meter match next weekend.

I need to sight in the scope and do some practice shots also.

So here is the Rem 700 Grendel with the Jury barrel, Bix?n Andy trigger.
A Triton 42S silencer with a ColeTac-cover. Nord Arms Type 2 bipod.
The scope is a Vortex PST II 5-25x50 in a Spuhr mount. Stock is the KRG Bravo with adjustable buttstock.

is there ALWAYS snow and ice in Sweden all year??? brrrrr.... how do you shoot groups when you're shivering?

i know i might get lynched but i wish we'd quit delaying and go to the metric system. i use metric at work all the time and it's so much easier than imperial.

No.
Not snow and ice all year. Depend on where you live in Sweden but since I live in the northern parts of Sweden, we have snow normally from about November to April I guess.
But we also have warm summers here.

Yes. Really like this rifle and cartridge. One of the reasons why it is at the gunsmith right now to get the Krieger-barrel fitted to the Rem 700. I really hope to get it to shoot, and that I got a little more speed with the longer barrel.

Well. The match was really fun but I didnt got a nice place et the end.
A bit windy so the short barrel and heavy 140gr ELD-M was struggling. But I think that I would have been worse with the lighter 108gr Scenar.

Here is a picture of the best 5-shoot group:

A little high on the target but the group size was OK.

Now the Kriegerbarrel is back from the gumsmith and I have fitted it to the Rem 700.

This barrel is in HV-contour and in 1:8 twist.
The length is now from boltface to muzzle 653mm (25,7")
The throut have been extended 2,5mm (0,09") from the "standard" so that I can load the heavier bullets with longer COAL.
Have also put a muzzlebrake on the barrel that I will try and see how it works. Can use the suppressor also if I want.

First loads have been done and I will try to to to the range and start the loadprocess.

Very nice indeed, Second. Good man. The chassis looks good, the rifle definitely hides the "mini" Grendel case well indeed. Let us know how she does! I want more than anything to see what it'd do with some new Sta-Ball Winchester powder; you've got the room to burn the slower powders.

The Whinchester powders is very hard to find here in Sweden.
And where I live, it is almost only Norma or Vihtavouri that I can find.
