Night Grendel - Alexander Arms Grendel with Digital NightVision, Hog Hunting at night

I took the Grendel to the deer lease to get it sighted in ahead of a future pig hunt. Yep you read that right, we have more feral hogs on this property than deer. I am using a Pulsar Digisight N550 riflescope and a IR illuminator made by Bosch (AEGIS LED).

I let my buddy shoot the Grendel for the first time and he did fine, shot all 5 in about the size of a fist. Prior to this trip I had been getting sub MOA groupings with the 129gr SST ammo.

Anyhow hope you like the vid, we are ready to put the smack down on the hogs. I will post up hunting vids if it works out that I can capture the action.

North Central Texas (Stephens County), the terrain is mostly flat with lots of mesquite trees. Some wide open areas and in fact the land we hunt is owned by a cattle farmer and there is a 500x500 yard field planted with winter wheat to support the cows that hogs frequent.

It is a good buy with respects to initial cost and standard features, however the cost IR illumination system(s) / recording hardware / image enhancement device(s) lense doubler begin to add up and in the end start to put you at a price point near the ATN PVS-22 clip on unit. It should be known that in less than half moon conditions the scope really suffers in being able to render a clear and fluid image and there are other night vision systems that do low ambient light far better - again at a higher cost...

Night vision stuff is fun to play with. Here is a pic of one of my old AR's with a NV unit not available to the public. It was a very pricey unit and will work in complete darkness. It was pretty cool for the time I got to use it.

As a bone stock unit How far could you make out a hog with 50% moon light ....then near zero light?

I had the opportunity to use ANPVS 22's on operations and they were great from a simplicity point of veiw but I can not afford them. I know the digital stuff has limitations but for civilian use with an illuminator they would be just fine... and affordable. Kevin

150 yards bone stock and 50 yards with no moon.

with the illuminator I run the moon is no longer needed and I can identify out to 400 yards.

That sounds great .. Would you tell me the Brand and model of that Illuminator .. Sounds like it will fit my bill perfectly ..

I need something to see/kill coyotes at 300+ yards

Someday - I will own my own piece of land and I will be able to invite whomever I want to hunt there. Unfortunately. In my current lease situation that isn't possible.

I hope to have some footage of the Grendel vs a big North Texas pig very soon. I wish I could guarantee it but you can't predict their patterns on my lease. Guess that's why they call it hunting and not shootong

Smoke - you will get sticker shock on the MSRP of that illuminator, it is one of a kind on the Black Diamond technology (even illumination), do some shopping around on the used market and you might score a deal on one or two!!!

Good Video Benny, I have a N550 on one of my 6.8's, also have a PVS-14 with SNVG DLOC mount and an Eotech on my 7.62x40WT, always nice to be able to see in the night, especially for hogs. One thing I like about the PVS-14, learned this from one of the other guys, you can of course wear it helmet mountedm, which I have, then we put an IR laser on the gun, so if you don't have time to move the PVS-14 to the gun because the hogs are too close, you hit the pressure switch on the IR laser and fire....i've only tested it, he has done it several times, works great

The setup you have with the IR laser and helmet rig is what I would like to get into some day.

I came up empty on hogs this weekend, none showed.

I captured some footage of a skunk and some cows, if I find any of it worth posting I will add here but right now I'm just diappointed to not have had a shot opportunity on a hog.

this is really neat, how much would the set up in the video cost? just a scope and illuminator? not the video recording equipment. can you give some detail about how it works. what is an illuminator? is it something coyotes or hogs or any varmint can see at night? what kind of range can you shoot to? This is very fascinating to me. I have a fish pond that otters destroyed last winter. they ate every single catfish in the pond last winter only leaving heads on top of the ice. this looks like something i would be interested in because the dang otters never came out during the day. can you please ellaborate on how it works, cost etc, i have no knowledge or experience with this.
