Well mostly because it's my money and I can have what I want.
No that we past that part, I don't feel like giving uncle Sam more money then I have too so a nice light 12 with a custom made flash hider to pin and weld make it 16 nice an legel and I ain't got to worrie about the law.
And I already have a true 16 inch, but want a nice super light weight 12 inch barreled grendel to go with it and the 20 inch I'm going to build.

You might want to find out how much that extended muzzle device weighs if you want to keep it as light as possible. Either way, I'm sure it's going to handle great with a light-profile barrel. Good luck!

Trying to decide between the AA 11 inch barrel some other barrel that's 12 to 12.5 with a light weight profile.

You spend your $$$ anyway you want but, I would rather buy a lighter 16" barrel than throw a 4 inch muzzle device and have to pin/ weld it to be "Legal".
Why not just make it a 12" pistol with a brace?

Because I don't won't a pistol and I don't want to deal with a stamp for a pistol and it will be sharing a lower with my 16 inch.
And a 5 inch flash hider hardly comes close to the same weight of 5 inches of barrel.
5" Flashhiders are usually 5 to 6 oz straight from the package......not counting washer, pin or the weld.
A 12" Grendel are around 19-22 oz and 16 oz are 25-27oz.
But, like I said you do what you want, just doesn't make alot of sense to me.

Blaster, can I make a suggestion? You might just do yourself a favor and buy a PSA lower build kit for ~~120 bucks when they put em on sale, a 40 dollar lower, and just build a pistol lower. No tax stamp, and no long pin and weld. Best of both worlds. You can't go wrong. I don't think. Maybe not. Perhaps.
Hell I just bought myself one from them for the SB3 kit and would sell you everything else you need to build yourself a pistol lower (except the lower itself) for a c-note. That should make you able to build one for ~~140ish. Just an idea. You'd avoid the stamp, your pistol would go down as an "other", so it'd be open until you re-registered it, if you have to, and you could take them both to the range and swap em easier than moving money from pocket to pocket.

Only issue with that is from what my state law enforcement days a pistol ar must still have a tax stamp.
Not to mention I don't ever want a pistol ar it's not even worth my time in how I use a ar.
That and all I need to build this upper is a barrel and flash hider I have enough spare parts to build it and let it share the lower with my 16 inch.
