Guys:
This briefing didn't appear to me to be much more than a very general picture of the things the Army eventually wants to obtain. I didn't see anything very definitive for small arms other than trying to find something different for casings than metal.
Still do not see any defined requirements so I wouldn't get particularly excited.

I think someone latched onto the concept of "overmatch" and figured they could apply it across every metric they see with regard to a weapons system.
When thinking about achieving certain muzzle velocities, it makes me wonder if they are looking at existing technology for pressure containment and saying, "5.56 and 7.62 are working at anywhere between 58ksi to 62ksi. In order to have overmatch, let's not just do an increment above that. Let's ramp it up to 75-100ksi...because why not?"
They will need some revolutionary materials science to pull that off and make weight. You don't just step up into 75-100ksi because you feel entitled to "overmatch".
Recoil energy will be off the charts as well. Do they have any competent engineering that they're bouncing these ideas off of before asking for interstellar specs?
Primer retention and integrity will also be an issue, let alone the pressure containment vessel.
These are pressures that would scare off Roy Weatherby, which is saying something.

Looks like I'm wrong about my assumptions of this program.
It's legit and they are achieving the specs.
Will be interesting to see how it turns out.

From the article it sounds like SOCOM snipers are getting the 6.5 Creedmoor now.

Yes. SOCOM has already issued a TDP for ammunition production last I heard.

Then they're .... using lighter metal alloy in the projectiles to make them longer for better BCs in case-telescoped cartridges out of 24-inch barrels on a bullpup platform?
Have they redesigned the CT cartridges to take up less space?
Last I heard, 20 rds of CT took up as much space as 30 rds of standard ammo, though with an impressive weight reduction and greater velocities.
