Now they will simply ban all firearms. That was the intent from the beginning and this incident is nothing more than a reason.

Here is what the leftists in Australia will say next. 'Obviously banning only semi automatic weapons wasn't enough to stop mass killings. Therefore it is time we ban all firearms.'

I bet the law will be passed within six months and all you Aussies out there who registered your firearms will be told to turn them in or be arrested. Of course you will be given about one cent on the dollar in value -- maybe.

Adjusting for population, that's almost as bad as Las Vegas, Sutherland and Parkland combined [(323.4/24.13)×7]=93.8

Thus far in 2018, you were more than twice as likely to be killed in a mass shooting in Australia than in the US.

Unfortunately, that would not be the case. If we include all of the familial mass shootings such as was had in Australia (something pro gun groups never include in their data), drive-by mass shootings, etc., we have a lot more mass shootings than most folks realize. Nobody seems to like sources like this, but this one has links to news articles and such where each event can be verified. http://www.gunviolencearchive.org/mass-shooting

Most of these we never hear about because they occur as local news only.

Diane Feinstein needs to give up her handgun that she carries while in San Francisco (a "semiauto" in fact), it is only destined to be a family tragedy once her failed liberalism becomes evident... o wait! She is one of the Privileged Left b/c she is exempt from the laws...

That's where I go my data from. Add up the "mass" shootings in the the US thus far in 2018, being sure to negate any of the 4 death shootings where the shooter killed itself (I'm being politically correctWink)

DNS is on to something here. I spend a fair amount of time over at Dr. John Lott's website for the Crime Prevention Research Center. Usually, Dr. Lott's focus is on mass public shootings. He defines this as mass shootings (4 victims or more) in a public place not related to any other crime. Gang, drug and family violence usually don't fit the definition.

But, to address the issue seriously, I think you know as well as I why such stories appear only on the local news: They simply do not merit coverage on network news.

Time constraints limit how many events can be covered on a news show, and those which are reported on are selected for nationwide interest and importance.

Interest. There's no logical reason for the NBC Nightly News to report on a robber shot in Tulsa, when it will likely be of zero interest to residents of other cities and states.

Importance. 50,000 people shot in 50,000 separate incidents is just business as usual, but a wacko shoots 500 innocent people from a hotel room and it's headline news.

It's simple if your a liberal. For instance, you can take raw temperature data that shows that the earth has been cooling, "adjust" the data (because you say it needs adjusting) to show the opposite, and then brainwash everyone into thinking it's true. And if someone tries to call you out, just call them names. This can be applied to almost any agenda you might have!

Well stated Stan. The truth is we will always have deranged people who harm others,"including people in power". I should know, I grew up with the worst serial killer in Montana's history, who happened to be stopped by another person I know, who had a gun. When I was younger, I new people who lived under Stalin and Hitler's clutches and their stories had an effect on me to say the least LOL. The gun violence problem has been declining as has school shootings, but most will not realize this as the left is searching for another marching mantra of evil assault weapons. The carnage in Chicago is ignored since it is run by a leftist with strict gun control and doesn't fit the talking points. Violence is world wide as a muslin bombing in Indonesia, to the knifing in France which just occurred. We live in a dangerous world that has always been dangerous and probably always will be dangerous. Disarming decent people for the actions of a few is disgusting to me and counter productive in my opinion. Governments love disarmed populations as they are easier directed and controlled whether for the better or worst. The good sign of freedom is we can still discus these topics without fear of retribution as can happen, "in the so called free nations of Europe" for having the wrong opinion. Freedom is precious to me and I never take threats to them lightly. I have listened to victims who were under the control of dictators and criminals alike and I will never give up my fight for our right to defend our selves. When I hear phrases such as common sense, registration or no one needs a, my warning light and buzzer comes on. Propaganda is used by both sides and will always emphasis the good while repressing the bad, just like dating Smile As the staying goes: all's fair in love and war!

Sure!

Australia had a population of 24.1 million in 2016 (latest I could find). The USA had a population of 323.4 million in 2016. Thus, Australia has a population of that is 7.452% of the USA. Or there are 13.419 Americans for every Australian.

Thus, giving equal weight to each individual on a percentage of population basis, having 7 people killed in a mass shooting in Australia is equivalent to having 93.9 people killed in a mass shooting(s) in the US. Parkland, Las Vegas and Sutherland had 103 combined (including the shooters for this calculation since the MSM likes to always include the shooter to inflate the death toll).

Utilizing the data from Gun Violence Archive, there have been a total of 6 "mass shootings" thus far in the US in 2018 where 4 victims not including the shooter were killed. The deaths totaled 37 not including the shooters. Weighting the 6 non shooter deaths in Australia for population, that is the equivalent of 80.94 in the US. Thus during 2018 year to date, you were 2.19 times more likely (80.94/37) to be killed by a mass shooter in Australia than in the US. Put another way, 0.00002489627% of Australians have been killed in mass shootings thus far in 2018. Comparatively, "only" 0.00001144094% of Americans have been killed in mass shootings in 2018.

Statistics can be played with the generate any outcome you want (look at my example of the "global warming" above).

Also note that Mirriam Webster defines "mass" as:

3 a : a large body of persons in a group ·a mass of spectators

I don't think four victims qualifies as "mass" at all. Lets call it 6. Then you were almost 5 times (4.736) more likely to be killed in a "mass" shooting in Australia than the US thus far in 2018: (6*13.419) = 80.514 (population adjusted) vs 17 (Parkland).

Of course one could also argue that "mass" has different meanings in Australia than in the US

The leftists twist numbers to support their cause and so should we. After all, these are people that flat out ignore evidence on other subjects such as this:

C'mon Horde, you had to know I'd ultimately sneak that in sooner or later. Because even a former First "Lady" is entitled to go commando once in a while! Wink

Traffic fatalities were up 40% in the 4 years after weed was legalized. The number of drivers who tested positive for weed was up 145% in the same period. But it's all good. We have no idea how many lives were saved by banning "high capacity" magazines right around the time weed was legalized. Smoke weed, not guns.
