Whats to come of 6.5grendel.com
#1
So will this stay a grendel forum with the intoductions of the 264 LBC and adopt this round as one of its own or will these rounds be competitors on here as they are in the industry?

Do we answer your question as one whole or one by one, or we send a written reply to the person living under the bridge?

The .264 LBC is essentially an orphan now. Expensive rifles and expensive ammo, wrong answer these days.

Don't mean to insult you, but there is not much difference between the rounds. Maybe the question you asked was for the broad audience, but no one is disqualified from the forum for using 264LBC.

Gotcha, no it was just a curiousity to see how everyone felt one way or the other. Personnaly im new to the 6.5 world and im building my first AR with a 264 LBC barrel so i can (supposively) shoot either or.

There is no difference in the rounds. The chamber of the LBC is a little different and it is less tolerant of some bullets than the Grendel.

In the long run the Grendel SAAMI acceptance will settle the question. It takes the Grendel out of the so called semi-wildcat status and that's were the 264 LBC still is. In reality it, to the consumer, it doesn't matter they are functionally the same.

A "non-issue" issue. Both chamberings fire the same ammo. Everything else was marketing with the exception of a tiny throat variation... Nothing much to see or fuss about in the real world.

long answer short: Nothing to change about 65grendel.com. More odd that anyone would even think there ever was a reason to change anything in my opinion.

I believe in time the .264 LBC and the other names will go away and become Grendel and the .264 ammo will also change the name to Grendel. Saves on confusion and will help to market the product. Right now, the other companies that got butt hurt and decided to come up with thier "own" versions of the Grendel are still pushing a wildcat since the "Grendel" has become SAAMI certified. So, rather than sell a wildcat round/chamber, I believe they will just give in and just stamp it all Grendel. Or not ..... either way it's thier problem.

Are they welcome here ...... of course. Anyone shooting a Grendel or .264 is welcome here. I'll sure as hell shoot .264 ammo if it's on sale and shoot it in my Grendel.

And since Russias' AK 12 is allegedly, reportedly in production and being chambered for the 6.5 Grendel, I believe ammo availability is going to just get better.

I don't recall seeing anyone flamed out of the forum or a thread deleted for engaging in polite discussions abut other cartridges. (In fact flaming or other harsh comments are seriously frowned on by the moderators and the bulk of the membership!)

The strength of this forum comes from the willingness of the members to have honest discussions. Indeed one of the reasons other cartridges need to be addressed in this forum is to help better illustrate where the Grendel fits in the wide variety of cartridges available to the shooter.

Having said that, I will also say that I don't know of a better cartridge for the average hunter.

The discussion gets interesting when going to dangerous game, longer ranges, and serious competition. Even there, the Grendel does very well when folks recognize that the cartridge was optimized for deer hunting.

Mutt / Guys:

For those who don't know, Alexander was charging companies to use the name 'Grendel'. Over the years, companies have come and gone in terms of paying to use that name. To name a few, LW and Les Bear, barrel makers Shilen and Satern.

My question would be this. Since the Grendel is getting the SAMMI stamp, does this mean that AA no longer has proprietary hold over the name 'Grendel'?

That's correct, Alexander Arms released "6.5 Grendel" last fall, there's a very thorough thread about this in one of the fora.

Actually, AA never charged anyone to use the Grendel name or trademark. The only requirement was that they ONLY use the designated Grendel chamber and that they maintain appropriate quality control of that chambering. Shilen still makes Grendel barrels, though to this point exclusively for AA. Les Baer, Lothar Walthar, and Satern all had other issues regarding the use of the Grendel chamber and/or name, but it wasn't related to the payment or royalties.

With SAAMI approval, the use of the Grendel trademark passes into common domain, and may be used by anyone chambering the rifle or making ammunition within the SAAMI specifications. As posted on the AA website:

The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute ("SAAMI") has adopted the 6.5 Grendel as an official SAAMI cartridge. As a result of the cartridge's official recognition, ALEXANDER ARMS® will relinquish the trademark "6.5 Grendel."

Bill Alexander states: "One of the primary purposes of trademarking the name was to protect the integrity of the design. With the adoption of the 6.5 Grendel cartridge standard by SAAMI, the design is now protected and any confusion in the marketplace as to the specification of the cartridge has been eliminated."

SAAMI's formal adoption of the design specifications for the cartridge has led ALEXANDER ARMS® to announce that it will relinquish its federally-registered trademark and that "6.5 Grendel" is to be the common commercial name for a cartridge that adheres to the specifications adopted by SAAMI.

ALEXANDER ARMS® is proud that a cartridge of its design has received this important designation and is pleased to take this important step in the continued market development of this breakthrough cartridge, which is perfectly matched to the AR-15 platform.

H77 Before there was a 264 LBC, 6.5CSS, or 6.5 Sporter there was 6.5 Grendel. Now since it was accepted by SAAMI manufacturers will be more likely to go with the Grendel. Have any other of the chamber manufacturers ever provided load data for their cartridges? I have never found any. Since they don't provide safe load data they must assume some liability for whatever load goes into the rifle since they have not provided any guidence on what is safe for their barrels. So more than likely the Grendel will be more widely accepted by more and more manufacturers as its popularity grows. Long Live the King

To submit to SAAMI, you must be a member, which is by invitation. Hornady picked up the Grendel, and they were a member, and so they were the submittor.

No one but AA manufactures Beowulf, and with all the big companies already running their own big bores, SAAMI submission is unlikely unless Hornady or another member were to pick it up. Hornady builds .450 Bushmaster ammo, if I remember correctly, so they don't have a huge reason to jump in, though Hornady is a great company, and very friendly to shooters in general, and may decide to do it anyways.

I don't think any large bore cartridge for the AR-15 frame is SAAMI.

Are they?
