As of October first all boar in the state of North Carolina are classified as feral hogs and can be hunted any time in the entire state.

Eastern North Carolina has a lot of hog farms. Hogs outnumber people in the state.

With hurricanes, floods, etc. a lot have escaped into the swamps and are a problem.

A wildlife guy told me they start procreating at 6 months old and can have a litter that averages 8 piglets every 3 months and 3 days.

What kind of load do you use with the Scirocco? I've tried the Winchester 748 and AA2520 loads listed on the Alexander web site. I got better mv with 2520.

I figured LeveRevolution would be even better since it's a little slower. I worked up some loads with a max of 30.2 grains.

I thought I would see pressure signs and wouldn't ever shoot the 30.2, but it worked fine with a 2335 mv out of a 20 inch barrel.

I might be able o get up to 30.4 or 30.5. I'd like to get up to 2400 feet per second and then test the Scirocco to see the actual drop.

Swift says they have a BC of .571, but that's hard to believe. I've heard guys say .540 is more realistic, but that was at higher velocities of a .260.

Supposedly they will expand down to 1400 fps., which will take it out to over 800 yards.

If the BC really is that good, this could be one of the best long range bullets for the Grendel, and definately the best long range hunting bullet.

The gel tests that are on the AA site are outstanding.

hey guys i would like to try hog hunting, but i have no clue how to look into it. is there a lisence, where can i go and what kind of bullet should i use to shoot them with? Anybody offer me some help on getting started.

I know there are a couple places in southern Ohio for hogs. They are high fence hunts though. I haven't decided where I want to hunt hog I've looked at lots of sights. Texas has hog hunts where you use military style night sights etc. You can shoot as many hogs as you want in a given time. Sounds like fun!

On private property with landowner permission, wild pigs may be hunted year round using rifles, shotguns, crossbows, bows or pistols. There is no size or bag limit, and you may harvest either sex. Also, no hunting license is required.

On wildlife management areas (WMAs), hogs may be taken during most hunting seasons, except spring turkey. But, if it's during archery season, you must use a bow - during muzzleloading gun season, you can only use a muzzleloader. And, you do need a hunting license as well as management area permit and any other necessary permits to hunt wild pigs on WMAs - where on some, daily bag limits on wild pigs do apply, and on a few, there's even a minimum size limit on what you can take.

I think the 130 gr Scirocco stops expanding down aroun 1750 - 1800 fps. NOT 1400. , A buddy of mine used my (I now find out anemic)load @ long range last year must have been 8-900 yards. Miss , miss and then bang thump. It was dark before we got there . Twas a spine shot in and out. Enough power. but .264 in and .264 out.
