First Grendel! Wilson 20" Home Build

Here's my first Grendel! I've wanted one for a long time and I finally decided to upgrade the barrel on my first AR build. It was an 18" DPMS MK12 5.56 that has evolved a lot over the years. I'm hoping to take this setup to 1000yrds alongside my 308 Savage and I might even haul it around hunting mule deer. It will definitely be my go-to coyote gun. Hopefully she's a shooter. I'll be using 123 SST factory ammo then reloading the brass, probably with 123 SST's and 8208XBR. I bedded the barrel using loctite and lapped the upper receiver with the Brownell's lapping tool. I just got her put together - I'll report back with groups!

I bought it from JSE surplus - very good communication and extremely quick shipping times. FYI signature is required upon delivery but it is easy to use the fedex website to request it be held at your local fedex - this is what I did since I needed it quick and knew they would try and deliver it while I was away.

That looks good except for the pistol grip and bipod.

You aren't the only one I've noticed. Seems everyone is afraid to paint the plastic or rubber.

I like the two-tone look. The camo wrap was just something I had laying around that I thought I'd throw on. I have painted some stocks and grips before but I don't like the feeling against the paint when you're handling the gun. It gives it kind of a cheap feel.

Having a helluva time posting with very little cell reception. Bottom shot is a called flier. I think she's a .75MOA gun. Shot an 800yrd plate several times with about a 75% hit rate (better than I did with my heavy bolt action 308). She also took two muleys and a whitetail. I'll follow up in the hunting section with dead deer photos when I can get to a computer.

Here are a few more pics - 5 shot groups at 500yrds while I was figuring out my holdovers. I didn't pay much attention to wind thus the horizontal stringing. 123sst factory.

This isn't cherry picking the best groups out of hundreds of rounds... these were the only groups I shot at 500. What do you guys think? I think if I would've paid attention to the wind at least the second group would be .5MOA. I just picked up my dies and some components so I'm hoping some ladder testing will really make her shine.

I called them ( JSE ) and they had a couple more they had just got in but had not updated their site. I ordered a barrel and one of their bolts as well. I hope mine shoots good too. Thanks for the update
