I'm thinking about ordering a 20" Heavy barrel action from Brownell's once Boyd releaseses their stocks for the Howa Mini Action. I sent an e-mail to Boyd and they advised they are going to release stocks for the mini action. Boyd CS could not provide a release date but I think it will be this year.

Length is not the issue, I want the HB profile.

According to Matt at LSI only the heavy barrel has enough material to safely be threaded.

It may be a month or so before I get mine. When I do, I will take barrel OD measurements at different lengths and report it back here.

I just called Whittaker's to confirm my order. All is good. They also have the 20" lightweight barrel with OD Green stock for $423.99, but its not listed on their website. Call to place your orders.

The Howa sporter profile (aka medium profile) is 15.8mm in dia.

That is .622in or just under 5/8in for those who persist with incomprehensible BS measurement systems.

Here's another short video review. It appears to be the 22" standard taper barrel. One thing didn't make sense though. It says the smallest group was 1.3" but the average was .847".

I ordered one from Whittaker a couple weeks ago, fast delivery. The gun shoots very well, just under an inch with PPU 120 gr bullets. nice light set-up. I plan on taking a couple white tail's with it soon!

I was at Whittakers earlier today. Of all days to make my 5 year visit there, it was factory rep day and the place was packed. I didn't feel like standing in line for 2 hours to get my gun off layaway so I just fondled a few off the shelf. They only have the 22" and 20" LW guns. Both felt light and a bit odd. Seems they use the same stock regardless of barrel contours so the standard barrels are free floated by a ways. The end of the stock felt very wide compared to the narrow barrel diameter. I seriously doubt there's enough meat to thread either of the standard barrels. I'll have them ship mine later this month and I can help a local shop with my transfer fee.
