Vortex Viper PST mounting - LaRue or Burris?

They are made less than 10 minutes from my house. I have 3.

Larue is also a HUGE supporter of our local shooting sports and the industry as a whole. He paid for the construction of the tactical bays at Best of the West out of his own pocket.

Add Information war as well (military/industrial espionage; web based attacks). That makes 2 out of 4 in the D.I.M.E. influence model (diplomatic, information, military, economic). I took a course at Leavenworth on the PRC...they are not our friends...I don't particularly care to fund their military build up.

I personally like the LT-112, with 20 MOA built into it. I have yet to need the goose neck feature in any of the LT mounts I have previously bought, so the 112 is my go-to mount now.

+1 The 20 MOA is a must for most scopes if you intend to dial to extended ranges with the Grendel. I would run out of adjustment at about 800 yds with the straight mount I had at first.

So far I'm very happy with the -104 and -158. LaRue also gives military discounts. Don't think I'll be shooting at 800 (other than maybe for fun...)

U.S. company, service is here in the States. Parts/glass are Japanese, assembly is in the Philippines currently, though as I understand it the assembly may be moved here eventually.

Its one of my major concerns. We have NO scope manufacturer using U.S. sourced glass that I can find. All of them use glass sourced from outside the country, and some use parts, gears, etc. from outside the country as well.

Some U.S. companies use German/Austrian/Eastern European glass, most use Japanese glass. Some use Chinese glass.

Due to anti-business policies, very few things are made in the US anymore, however...the weapons industry seems to buck that rule since the US has the most vibrant firearms, ammunition, and accessories manufacturing base in the world, hands-down. You would think that we would have several major optics companies making their products here, but they have mostly relocated to Japan, China, and the Philippines. China is clearly the badguy of that bunch, since they have Communist slave labor, while using at least 30% of their revenue for military upgrades to exert more dominance in the Pacific rim.

Many businesses have proclaimed that they can't afford to manufacture in the US anymore. We are now reaching the phase where it is clear that you can't afford NOT to...

I hope optics companies take notice and move shop to hosptiable States with great employee bases, technical expertise, and a business-friendly environment. Unfortunately, there aren't many of those left.

There was a time when we made good glass here, perhaps not up to German standards, but very good. I don't think we have any lensmakers left of any note, for any type of photo, telescope, or similar lenses.

Is anyone aware of any?

We can still make gears and such, although that capacity is shrinking rapidly.

There have to be at least some lens-makers for the defense industry, unless they've exempted that component field from Berry Amendment compliance. Think about the aerospace grade optics necessary for defense and NASA.

Collins ElectroOptics--Probably, but only makes eyepieces from my research.

No one that I can find makes riflescope glass.

IIRC: It's probably because of the chemicals involved in lens coating... I seem to recall the old Redfield folks got put in a sling over that.

No matter what state you move to, the EPA can come swooping in....

+1 for the LaRue and QD levers. I have one and it returns to zero and is solid as a rock... Can't say enough good stuff about the product or the company..

I have a Larue mount similar to the LT104 but with a 10 MOA cant and VFZ base (semi-QD) instead of the cam levers. I don't remove the scope from my Grendel often and this feature saves $50 off the list price of the mount. Before I had Burris XTR rings and I ran out of adjustment at 900 yds (Zeiss Conquest 4.5x14x50).

I've been very pleased with all my Larue mounts. Plus they are made less than 5 miles from my house.

A few of my buddies have these mounts and they are happy with them. They look good and function well.

LaRue LT-158, 10 MOA down angle. Cantilever like the LT-104 but closer to the barrel.
