Rattle Can Camoflage Patterns

I just finished my first Grendel and, to say the least, I'm tickled with the way she turned out. I'll post some pics when I get her painted but before I do that I'd like some ideas for patterns, colors, and techniques. When you post, try to include the colors and brand of paint used.

Fun with the rattle cans! use straw and grass for overlays and satin clear coat afterwards for a little more wear durability.

My brother, the artist, did something simixlair on a 300WM Remington 770

Rust-oleum was my pick, the Camouflage line.
Base coat of Khaki, then net over and did stripes of the other colors. didn't really use the Sand color (too light).
I also glued the net down using locktite spray adhesive #100 (light bond)
No real surface prep, just a quick rubdown with alcohol to remove most of the crap/oil.
I figure the more it gets used and the paint rubs or chips off, it makes more camo.

Nice job bro. I did a shotty like that a couple of years ago utilizing Cerakote and it turned out pretty good. But I'm starting to prefer the rattle can jobs because they're quick, effective, and, most of all, cheap. Plus, I really like the wear that occurs over time. Like you said, it just makes more camo.

Btw, how do you like that SWFA? I'm looking for a <$400 scope to put on a general purpose AR pretty soon and I've heard a lot of good things about them. Waiting for my refund from EOTech...lol

Not a Grendel but I was pleased with the rattle can job on this old Ithica. Used Cammo Rust-O-Leom from Menard's. A base coat of OD Green then using cedar evergreen foliage from my neighbors tree for a pattern added desert tan and black. It's my cedar swamp camo pattern.

For those that don't have neighbor's trees to steal foliage from( just kidding 65Whelen), arts and crafts stores often have plastic stencils in leaf, stick and grass patterns that work great with spray cans of either Krylon or Rust-O-Leum camouflage paint.

I really want to do a dazzle pattern once I get mine finished. A tan/ brown base then stripe it with olive.

I like your enhancement of the (Diamondhead?) fore end. Is that leather?

If I am ever able to get a Grendel AR15, I was thinking of doing something similar. Except I'd like to use wood, if feasible.

I did a little test of the dazzle to see what works. I need more vertical lines, but I think the concept will work well to break up the outline.
