SOCOM picks M-Lok

Just so you know Socom has picked M-Lok by Magpul. So I'm gonna go or on a limb and say that Keymod will eventually be a thing of the past. Alot more mfgs will start making parts and Rails with M-Lok.

Knowing this might help persuade you when you purchase your next rail.

I've been seeing Keymod accessories popping off in my courses.

I didn't care either way between the fanboi wars, and only concern myself with real world performance.

After what I've seen, I'm not impressed with Keymod.

I also noticed that the Unit is using MLOK on their Geissele rails on the new HK416A5 carbines.

About a year ago, I made that same decision myself. It took me about 3 hours of internet research and 1 visit to a gunshow (so I could look at the Keymod and M-Lok side by side) to make the decision. Total cost of the of that informed decision I made (if you include my time)was probably about $150. I do hope SOCOM did not spend much more than that.

..... more to contract awarding than just one being the better option. One could be better but not get awarded.

I have only used keymod, but looking deeply at the designs I don't really see any advantage of one over the other. Like peeling a potato one way vs another. Either way the potato gets peeled and it's just individual preference.

If keymods were popping off, sounds like they needed to improve inspections on their equip and use some blue locktite.

I can see the same potential loosening of screws on the m-lok. Maybe more would have to line up for it to fall off than a keymod, but if your accessories are sloppy and loose you already have a problem that should not have gotten that far.

Overall mechanics of the designs..... at this point in time I have to say just different ways to effectively skin the same cat in my opinion.

I went with M-Lok when it was first released. I liked the fact you have more adjustment with M-Lok imo and it's more robust, again my opinion. To me if contracts get awarded then it should drive down the cost of the parts, I'm theroy. Then maybe they choose M-Lok since it's a open source compared to Keymod which isn't.

Time will tell when on if they made the right choice

I've got a keymod upper and, while it has never failed to hold any attachment in place, I am not terribly impressed with it as a system.

Next go, I'll be putting an mlock fore end on my upper.
