Ok, so it's still 6 months + before we see Grendels and Howas. That dont mean I cant make plans... I want a accurate Grendel and that probably means a heavy barrel..and a light rifle for hunting, that probably means fluting that heavy barrel. Last year I was introduced to "dimple fluting". It's lightens the barrel better then horizontal fluting and to my eyes it looks do-able without removing the barrel from the action. What do you guys think?
And I'm going to ceracote it for sure. And probably have the inner action teflon coated.
Does anyone know anything about Howa triggers? I must confess I've never owned a Howa.

The HACT trigger fitted to current model Howas is a two stage trigger that is about 5lb on the first state, 3lb on the second.
There is a bloke here in Australia who seems to make a tidy living lightening those triggers. I am sure there is someone in the USA who could do the same for you. There are the usual aftermarket single stage triggers too.
Talley lightweights for the Rem700 fit nicely.

the HACT trigger is a great FACTORY trigger. A lot of people say they are going to replace it and....dont. personally, i like them and havent switched them out on any of my personal rifles.

Id have to agree Matt, The trigger is sweet and consistent.

OK I get that the trigger is pretty good out of the box.
And I spoke with Mark at Precision Firearms about dimple fluting a Howa while it was still attached to the action. He was very busy-but thought it could be done. So that opens up the possibility of getting a little heavier barrel and having it fluted to lighten it up some.

Is there a smaller capacity mag coming for the mini mag? Sure would like to use this gun for deer hunting. In my state 5 rounds is maximum allowed for deer hunting. For me not much point in purchasing a gun like this, if I'm not legally allowed to hunt deer with this firearm.
Suppose a guy can leave the magazine out and single feed her. Close, though still not my cup of tea.

If you read through the other posting about the howa grendel there is a guy named matt from LSI, He says it comes standard with a five round drop out mag.

SD, like A5 says the Howa MA comes with a 5-round magazine. The listing of 10-rounds seems to be a misprint.

+1. That is what I remember reading. But, would it not be possible to plug a 10 round magazine to only allow five to fit? Just asking.

the 6.5 grendels DO come with a 5 rd magazine. when we did the spec sheets for the 2016 catalog we had to go off what we had at the time. We already had .24, .222 and .223 that all came with 10 rd magazines. 10 rd magazines will be available for these and vice versa for the other calibers. also, the new 7.62x39 mini action will also come with a 5 rd magazine.

I doubt anyone would have the Mini action on their books yet, best to get an uninleted stock and give to a stock make at this stage or when they arrive mid year

Yea call manners,they may do an inlet for you. I have one of theirs and it is a very nice stock.

My minds eye sees it looking like the outside of a golf ball but I hope that is not right as it dosent sound very visually appealing to me.

We have a picture of a dimple fluted barrel in the short barrel group buy post #268. The dimple flute take just a little more weight off the barrel than the standard flute. The cool the barrel cools a little faster also. As to appearance, opinions do vary.

It would probably also do a bit differently with harmonics. I would guess it would attenuate rather than accentuate waves as compared to regular fluting, but what do I know?

Thanks Drift. I had a look and while it has the dimples it is a little different to what I had envisaged. Much more aggressive but does it offer extra weight saving over a straight or spiral fluting.
I did see some time back, and I cant remember where, but the spiral fluting was done to mimic the rifling with the fluting over the land to get the most in weight reduction as the fluting could go deeper if I remember correctly.
