Sav Shooter, yup lead chucker nailed what I was saying- been too busy last 3 weeks to make any sense here. We lost a family member, it's been difficult to get online lately.

Yeah, the drill bit was the quickest way to tamp the powder down. I give the loaded rounds a quick shakey shake after they are loaded- personal choice maybe.

The cfe-223 is an awesome powder! It's always been a 100-105% fill powder on my Gmx loads.

The parent company stated years back , of 5-6 new cfe powders to hit the market ASAP- the only one new is cfe-pistol.

I just bought a 16" AA Grrr bbl. Not sure on how I'm going to break it in yet...

Oh, yeah- I have about 1000 rounds thru my 20" AA bbl., from 08' . I compared my older throat specs to the new tube = old tube can be loaded 10 k longer in C.O.A.L.

Yes the compound throat does wear , as most std. throats do.

I take that as a sign the Grendel was a great choice when I snagged it up. My hat is off to all those that have forgotten more than I will ever be able to learn. I can only suppose then that my research has been fairly accurate concerning cleaning.

On a side note, barrel break-in seems to be a crock as well - Google for "Gale McMillan Barrel Break-In". Ever since I read on that, I've been just shooting my virgin barrels the same as old stock.

i hear that you can break it in but its not the 1 shot clean 1 shot clean 5000 rounds later its broken in. I was told its to break the sharp edge of the throat and my method is simple. clean new barrel, shoot 1 clean, shoot 5 clean, shoot 50 clean, shoot till groups open. mind you that aside from the first 6 (sighters essentially) they 50 are load development and i actually use them. not like many who bleieve it takes 100+ to break it in.

billy, yes. Good choice on round- caliber. You'll do fine here. Clean a bunch on the first 2-4 range runs- do some math on this-- then clean when you Feel It's Needed.

Still not sure on breakin in on my new 16" tube. I may go old AA school, or ? It's hard to answer so many on this.

Maybe Bill A could post up his original break in segment ?! It was a day of work! I did it to my relatives dismay- they wanted to shoot it ! It was July -92 F outside.

The whining was over the top , not just of heat outside, but the time frame it took to clean the bbl., that many times in a short shot string situation,.. of course no help was included,,,

This is why I gave up upon rellys going to the range with me..

I read all the time online-- just shoot the rifle, it will adjust to your needs. Hmmmmm.....

More input is needed.
