This. The Grendel ruined my sinister plans for a lightweight .308 carbine project that I literally had hungered for since childhood. I always thought, "Colt Commando + 7.62 NATO would be awesome....", but never thought it would come to fruition. When Knight's Armament came out with their SR-25K in the early 1990's before the Clinton AWB, I had to have one, but never made it in time.
10 years later, when the ban expired (2004), I thought my time had come. Since I was into long-range shooting, all my AR10 projects ended up being 24" and 22" guns, but I really was going to do an 18" or 16" .308 Winchester with a telescoping stock, rifle-length tube, real low-profile....and along came the Grendel.
A 16" Grendel AR15 makes all that pointless for me, especially since I'm able to shoot higher BC projectiles at the same or higher speeds than a 175gr SMK, from a much lighter gun with about half the recoil. That it only sucks up ~31.0gr of powder on the bench is a huge selling point for me as well, and my nephews can shoot it without fear of recoil. Then add to the fact that it is a handy little hunter that you can actually carry without regard for weight, and we truly have a dual-purpose carbine that is not ill-suited in either role, but covers down on target and hunting so well that it makes people leave their go-to hunting AND target rifles in the safe in many cases.
Both my .270 Winchester Model 70 "Featherweight" and my 22" .260 Remington AR10 are very easy for me to leave in favor of the Grendel.

Me confused. I thought 500gm = 0.5kg =1.1lb. Sorry for being pedantic.
Waiting for an AR in .45-70 with a 30 inch octagon barrel, case hardened receiver, and extra fancy walnut furniture. Until the day someone makes one, I guess 6.5mm Grendel will do nicely.

Being on the lower hemisphere and in a primarily metric land, I suspect that the blood is rushing to Klem's head and causing calculation inversion. 
So what's wrong with the cartridge?
Just sounds like you're having problems finding components and are impatient. Shoot something else until you get the stuff you need.
Go shoot an M1 Carbine, or a 10/22. It will make you feel better.
I have two brand new 14.5 grendel uppers I bought that I too have yet to shoot. Ammo is not plentiful and is expensive.
They will probably be for sale soon.

Funny, I see Hornady factory in stock in multiple places and at about the same cost as similar 6.8, etc. And cheaper than .308 (non-surplus).
Likewise, I've always been able to shoot grendel even when components were tight as the pressure on 6.5 bullets was less than on others.
For brass I used IMI 7.62x39 and fireformed.
So as far as I'm concerned, Grendel was easier to shoot during the components crunch than most of my other calibers.
As for selling your grendels, I'm sure you'll have no problem. I do have to ask, what will you replace them with that improves the areas of concern?

I stand corrected.
I am feeling extremely fortunate. I decided to buy a Grendel. Within a week I found a beautiful gun for a reasonable price and found ammo to be relatively easy to purchase. Actually waiting for a few rounds of Hornady 123 SST to be delivered today. It will cost more to shoot than my .223 but I knew that going in. My concern is how to get time off to get into some hog hunting. A week of deer hunting in Minnesota is not enough.

Technically not true. I bought my grendel ammo from sportsmans guide in St Paul. They currently are out of stock and we do end up paying tax as opposed to buying from Midway which I've also received some from. If my barrels would only come in so I could finish my rifles I'd be happy. Now I'm just patiently waiting.

Welcome in App. The ammo from SG, usually is wolf ammo. My work is within a 10 min drive from that place=a pit of blah!
All that is in there , is returns from unhappy customers- or a few slightly damaged returned items. Mostly junk in general,=
in the actual store for foot customers.-- Most of their bizness is online. Ill post some pics of the joint . If I go back... ever again................

Yeah, SG is basically a dump. I've never purchased anything while in the store but you can do online pickup there if you don't have to backorder. They do carry Hornady in addition to Wolf.
I see Midway has Hornady in stock now but then you have to deal with their obnoxious shipping rates.

I love the Grendel but I own several other rifles in other caliber, when I get bored I build another and I'm sure I could grab any of them and use them for any given situation. I currrently am building a 204, a 458socom, a SBR 223, and a replica of the M16A1 with triangle hand guards and a carry handle. It keeps me from my former hobby of racing cars, my wife doesn't mind because I spend a lot less money and its safer than my previous hobby, Mountain Climbing in bad neighborhoods (Afghanistan) and chasing down cartel members in Mexico.
The component shortage is nationwide for EVERYTHING right now.... I haven't seen a single pound of pistol powder for over 4 months locally. The day my local Sportsman's Warehouse got 8208 I called 4 friends to mule it for me and ended up spending my entire weeks pay.
As for Factory ammo; I saw 123gr SST on the shelves of 3 LGS last month for the first time EVER so im guessing they just finished a big run.
I went through every problem you explained and after blacklisting a certain so called *barrel maker* and some help from Underground Tactical I finally have a new favorite rifle. Just don't blame the cartridge for our current economic situation.
