New Athlon 2-12 with a decent reticle

I'm really digging the new Athlon Helos BTR 2-12x42.

This will be a good setup for the Grendel if the glass is clear enough. Zero stop and locking turrets!

Agreed. Looks like a nice feature-set for the money. I just wish it was a bit lighter, but you can't have it all.

I like this, too. I was initially interested in the new Ares ETR 1-10x24 with similar reticle, but I think this 2-12x42 at half the price might be the real value pick. I've been very impressed with my Ares BTR 2.5-15x, and this 2-12x looks perfect for handy do-everything gun.

Nice scope for a Grendel recce... I put the mil version on my 16” rifle. The size and reticle are great and the entire rifle as pictured weighs 8.5lbs.

The adjustable eyepiece allows excellent reticle sharpness and the parallax knob snaps the target into focus vs just sort of being less blurry. The numbers on the dial are off, but that’s not unusual. Locking turrets are solid and the zero stop is very easy to set. There is some CA in the out of focus areas of the reticle but not bad and the target is not obscured.

Just bought one of these for my 12” from the same guy I bought my upper from. Paid $350 plus he threw in 2 boxes of wolf gold soft points.

Upgrading from vortex SE 1-8x24 for 2 reasons:

1. Light transmission
2. Ability to stretch the caliber closer to its potential. I have a 10.5” 556 with the same vortex, so it was like I had 2 AR’s that had the same limits distance wise (to an extent)

Your Wolf Gold soft points were imported by Wolf about ten years ago and was manufactured by Prvi Partizan in Serbia. The brass was soft and the primer pockets would only last for a couple of reloads. The bullet metal jacket tended to dirty up the enfield rifled barrels pretty quick. The more recent lots of PPU 6.5 Grendel ammo have better quality brass with small rifle primers. I get pretty decent accuracy out of the PPU 120 grain HP BT ammo.

I got a box from the same guy a couple months ago. They’re okay, probably the worst shooting stuff I have for it. But I’ll still find something to shoot it at.

Will this scope be used for hunting?
If so, how do you like the FFP reticle? Is it to fine to see at low power?

Yes primarily, with some long range plinking. Reticle is a little small at low power, but def. Manageable.
