PSA uppers

I’m wanting to dip my toes in the 6.5 waters and I see that PSA has their 18 and 20 inch uppers for $399. I really don’t understand a lot about type 1 and type 2, etc. still trying to read and learn.

I work on a range and have picked up a few hundred once fired Hornady brass so I guess having brass dictates a new upper and caliber to start loading for.

Worth 4 bills for a complete upper or do something else? Main decision is 18 or 20”. I’m leaning 18” right now.

I have spent thousands and thousands of dollars with PSA…………

They are a stand up organization…..if it were me I would get an 18.

I think PSA stainless steel barrels are better made than their nitride barrels.

My PSA Grendel nitride upper had a very rough chamber. I think they forgot to run the finish reamer.

I agree the stainless steel PSA 6.5 Grendel barrels seem better than Nitride. You gain approximately 25-60 FPS with a 20” over a 18” 6.5 Grendel. If your going to use a suppressor the 18” will be handier and PSA 6.5 Grendel uppers usually ship with an adjustable gas blocks.


I have been around several PSA uppers in different calibers and they’re gtg.

I can't speak for their Grendels but a friend bought a .223 from them and won the yearly championship at club mid range (600 yard) AR- Tactical class with it scoring 3 cleans for a perfect 600 with a bunch of X's. Of course that guy practices at least twice a week which accounts for his wind reading

I have at least 10 or more PSA uppers in various calibers. .223, .223 Wylde. 5.56, 6.5 Grendel…………… They have been from the “best” upper Ive ever have. An 18” FN made chrome lined 1/8 Wylde chamber that is an absolute Monster, tack driver! And being chrome lined, it should outlast me by 100 years! “From my cold dead hands”! To a just pathetic 12” Grendel pistol upper that was a legitimate 15” MOA at 100. Stuff happens!

I’ve purchased a “Ship Load” of stuff from PSA, from just parts to complete guns and everything in between, they have always come through and answered the bell with any problem I’ve had!

Guns, gun parts, etc, are a crap shoot, I don’t care who you buy from, stuff happens. It’s whether they back up what they sell! The biggest endorsement I can give PSA is, I still shop there with confidence! YMMV.

My Gen 2 6.5 Creedmoor (AR10, Large Frame) from PSA wasn't a good experience, though I got it to work well with some quarters and a few minor non-PSA parts. Their small frame stuff is more sorted. Prices are very competitive.

I have a PSA Gen2 18" 6.5 Grendel stainless upper. It shoots great and is accurate. I am zeroed at 200 yds and hunt with mine. PSA is underrated and makes great stuff. I have 3 other of their AR's in different calibers. They make a regular line and an upper line of stuff. I am a regular guy and am most satisfied with the regular uppers. By the way...when you see a product that is a blem...get it. I have blem stuff and can't find the blem.

I shoot suppressed, so the 12.5 is just damn handy, still shoots center'ish hits at 600... the 65G in an their stainless 18" with handloads? should shoot the lights out brother.

i purchased an upper and a lower from them, large frame; Gen 2, once I replaced the gas block, gas tube, buffer, buffer spring and added 4 quarters it was solid. :confused:

PSA is good to go. Stand up company and local to me. I haven't had an issue with any products I have gotten from them. Uppers, lowers, Dagger pistol parts etc.

A buddy got a Grendel upper from PSA this summer and we could not get the bolt to lock back no matter where we had the gas block adjusted. He sent it back and it was returned without any explanation on the ticket at all, but my guess was a new gas block as it ran perfectly afterwards. Or the gas port needed opened up. Runs like a champ now and holds 1/2 moa with 123 SST handloads.
