Howdy!!! I am a new member here and getting into the Grendel for the first time. I am a long time hunter, especially varmints, and will be getting into f-class this spring.
I have a new to me first generation Alexander arms gdmr with the carbon fibre hand guard and 16 inch barrel on the way. I will be trying to track down some factory loads as well, probably hornady 123 amax and some mags too-- probably the aa ones.
The rifles main purpose will be as a deer/antelope hunting rig out to about 400 yads or so as well as the occasional renegade milk jug and pop cans....
Can anyone give me any information on this upper or general wisdom about the Grendel?

I started out with AA ammo and used that as a base to start my reloading efforts. Worked good for my application.
HI, and welcome to the forum, you will not be disappointed with the choice of the Grendel. However we need to understand what your expectations are for the upper you have on the way so that we can most accurately guide you. The AA 123 A-Max load is a great load, the major determining factor will be the quality of the barrel you selected. Shillen, Krieger,Douglas, Bartlien, Brux, Wilson, Pac-Nor, Schneider, to name a few are top line barrels, Shaw is hit or miss, could be great but not likely.

You'll do well deer hunting with 16" barrel. I've have very good results with the Hornady and AA ammo, the Nosler 120 BT shot sub-moa in my 16" Grendel. Welcome to the Horde.

Information on the upper:
You got a really nice one. When you shoot it up to it's potential, you will be pleasantly surprised at it's performance.
Recommendation:
Do as much practicing from field positions like offhand, seated, kneeling as you have time and money. Once you become proficient with the system you will have an excellent hunting rifle. The low recoil, and reasonable enough power for deer and antelope sized game (within reasonable distances) make this rifle/cartridge combination a great choice.
All the standard wisdom about feeding the rifle quality ammo to get the best results applies to the Grendel as it does to any other rifle. A reasonable man would not expect a match rifle to perform up to his expectations if he feeds it cheap, third world military ball ammo.
