Hello once again. I have been into this cartridge / mindset for a few years now. I had been on the older website a few years ago and just rediscovered it. In 2012 a club member had a new AR. He said he liked the rifle but the ammo costs more than he would like. He knew that I had an extra 5.56 upper for an AR which I had just assembled a "Dissipator " style upper. He offered to trade a new "non" 5.56 upper for the factory carbine upper I wasn't using currently. We ended up trading. I traded for an 18 inch heavy contour 6.5 Grendel free floated fore end from Alexander arms. The BCG had been augmented with lead to add weight. I knew a bit about the Grendel and looked forward to having a project. I mounted a Leupold scope, bought some ammo and dies. Very nice shooting, accurate, low recoil, and just fun. My son was 10 at the time. We were in a hunting stand during deer season. He had shot since he was 5 years old and was familiar with the rifle. I quietly asked him if he wanted to shoot the doe 65 yards in front of us. He wasn't comfortable so I decided to take a shot for some meat in the freezer. I shot at the high shoulder broadside. The deer did a serious and perfect backflip to an instant kill. My son was mesmerized. A year later he shot his first deer with this rifle combo and was ecstatic to have taken 6 point buck just as authoritatively. The next year he shot a 9 point buck! Larger than any deer that I have shot. So, by 12 years old he was a "spoiled expert"! HaHa. Needless to say he has claimed that rifle as His. The other day we were discussing the coming deer season. I decided to order another 6.5 Grendel upper and a new project as we both want to pursue whitetail in a few days. With the limited ammo and components available, it makes sense to us. He is 16 now and we discuss our hunting preferences like a daily campfire conversation. We agree on the Grendel and is a source of fun and deep talks regularly. So yes, I enjoy this chambering and topic very much.
