...but I had my Grendel inside the Tundra. Does that count?
Was a slow night with lots of rain and lightning. I had checked several properties and had seen no hogs. I was headed to my last property of the night and was on a farm-to-market road going 60-65 mph when I saw movement on the road. There isn't a lot that can be done in the time frame of seeing animals appear in your headlights. I let off the gas, gripped the wheel, and made a slight course correction to avoid hitting the largest hog that was just coming onto the road out of the bar ditch. In the process, I nailed a 90 pounder on the center stripe.
I went back and checked the carnage. The sow was unresponsive and I pronounced her dead just after 1:00 am. I dragged her off the road and into the bar ditch. Roadside services to be held by the Turkey Vulture Preservation Society.
My old 2007 Tunda did okay. I found the bumper slightly pushed back, but the steering was good and no new lights have appeared on the dash. Last month, I replaced my old, factory skid plate (my 2nd) with a heavy duty skid plate to protect the underside of the truck. Turns out, that might have been significant. I pulled some hog hairs out of the little door in it used to access the oil filter. The skid plate looks just fine as well.
This was my 3rd real collision with hogs, but the first time as the driver. The other two times, I was the passenger in my hunting partner's truck.
