The only gain would be a smaller lighter cartridge with less powder capacity (cheaper to shoot) and a common cartridge chambered in the AR-15. Honestly you could down load a 260 Remington to give close to the same ballistics as 6.5 Grendel. The biggest disadvantage is a 6.5 Grendel in an action designed for a 260 is the rifle is larger than required for the cartridge. A shorter action developed for the smaller centerfire cartridges like 223 Remington are probably better suited for the 6.5 Grendel.

To me it would be like asking if you could convert a 1903 A3 30-06 Springfield bolt action to 6.5 Grendel. Yes it could be done but is it really worth doing it, it wouldn’t be to me. If I had a Remington 799 with shot out barrel in 223 or 7.62x39 I’d really consider converting it to 6.5 Grendel.

If you want a grendel bolt gun that is easier to accessorize or customize, a Rem 7 or 700 would be the ticket. Unlimited stocks, magazine configs, optic mounts, etc.

Do you gain anything over leaving it in .260? Other than using less powder and probably cheaper brass, you gain nothing. If it’s just something you want to do I say go for it.

I always wanted to see Browning come out with it in their Super short action. If I could just hit the lotto I'd have one spun up. It'd for darn sure be prettier than a Savage. Right after that I'd get Sierra to make up a run of 120 gr 6.5 Gamekings. Gotta hit the lotto first.

wish sako 85 with their .223 length action (the xs action length) would chamber in 6.5 Grendel...i'd have a hard time not ordering one, with their nice flush 5 round metal magazines...it would be perfect in a 20" walnut stainless or an 18" finnlight, drooling thinking about both of those options

ole Melvin Forbes will make you one too, Nula. if he's still doing, i believe the action is either a rem 7 base or copy, same bases/rings etc. and those Nula's are peaches, he gets em light enough on the back end that he can use a real barrel and get that balance forward where it should be etc.

i'm a sucker for what sako does for factory options though, i have very talented smiths near me and could easily build me one, the 6 dasher is quite popular around here and the bench crowd, have buddies who build sporters around them for hunting and feeding from aic's mags with the modified inserts etc. and they can double for 2" groups at 500m all day long...but i would personally prefer a sorted factory rig from sako 85 with their flush 5 round etc... if they chamber it, i will probably come
