One thing about living in the country, you can have your shooting range right next to the old dairy barn. I may not be able to shoot for long tho, my tomatoes may get high enough I cant see the 100 yd target. Anyway, I've been battling a Ruger Hawkeye in 257 Roberts and cussing a lot. So for a confidence boost I dragged out the Franken rifle. Always has been a good shooter, I have a lot less in this Frankin rifle that that damn Ruger. 1st shot was low and right, so I adjusted my Simmons 2.8-10 x 44 , yes you read that right, got the exact movement I put in at dead center . Added 3 more to make the little smiley face, so I decided I'd put one more just for good measure. I felt it slip as the trigger tripped. Damn, I walked down there and had a look, not bad at all. 1/2" group by my measurement. Anyone looking to buy a Ruger Hawkeye in 257 Roberts? Might would let it go for the right money. Pretty Pretty rifle, shoots like S4!#. I am still thrilled to death with the Franken rifle tho, 120 Mk moving along very nicely and groups good too. The thing about this gov't imposed shut down is I am burning a lot of powder, every day. Hope this finds everyone well and healthy.

what is the Franken Rifle?

good shooting. what was the powder charge, case, and primer for that 120 SMK load?

i assume on the Ruger Hawkeye, that you've done the customary bedding, action screw torquing, trigger adjusting, scope base/rings tightness checking, scope swapping, load development, crown checking, and barrel cleaning, right? when you say it shoots poorly, how bad is poorly? is it a new rifle? or an older one? have you contacted Ruger? i don't have anything 25 caliber, but based upon reputation only have you tried any Hornady 75gr. HP bullets (if they still make them?) or a Sierra bullet? just some thoughts....

The Franken rifle is an AR that I cobbled together with info I gleaned from 6.5 Grendel.com , even had a gentlemen send me a lapping tool that I used and promptly returned. Many thanks to that fine gentleman. Its got a Satern barrel from Brownells with matching bolt, don't tell anyone , Satern is a dirty word here, 5R , 24" barrel. PSA blemished upper and lower, M4 adjustable stock, that I hate because it pulls my beard, trigger that I reworked myself. Its heavy , but dang it shoots good.
The Ruger is , well its a Ruger. I've probably spent enough on components over the last 10 years to have screwed a really good barrel onto it by now. I really don't need it to shoot light bullets, I shoot deer. Paper is just an aside. Fun to do , but doesn't really go well with mashed potatoes. I shoot more paper than deer. But , I never have to worry about whats for supper. Been over it with a fine tooth comb. I've tried several 100 gr bullets, Speer , Sierra, 115-120 grain Hornady, Nosler, Sierra, Berger, I guess everyone needs one nemesis, I think this Ruger is my nemesis. Looking at GB they're pretty pricey. Want it ? Thing is I don't know what I'd replace it with. Nothing really turns my crank at the moment. I really like the rifle, just wish it'd shoot. But then I have this Franken rifle that shoots pretty good.
The load consists of AR Comp, CCI 450, Hornady brass, 120 Sierra Match Kings .

Glad ole Franken is running good for ya.
If you want a better Ruger to play with instead of that 'Bob, go for the predator in 6 Creed. I have one, fine tuned the trigger, put it into a decent (the Magpul) stock, polished the inner barrel some, and dang!! 103 gr Eldx's shootin' way better than I can! Dropped me a fine doe last season with it. A real decent ruger to take the place of your renegade!!

The best memories come from things you built with leftovers, hand me down parts others didn't want, factory seconds..... that end up working like a fine tuned machine.
