Bore guide recommendation

So I ordered the bore guide I thought I needed for my new Grendel, but what arrived looks VERY different from my 5.56 bore guide



I'm thinking they sent me something for a bolt-action rifle??


Does anyone here know if the Wheeler Delta Series AR-15 Bore Guide works for Grendel? Its available locally, but the Wheeler website states "Inner tube diameter .250″ (not intended for 6.8mm jag)" However, it doesn't say anything about a 6.5 jag.






My only other option is to pay $20 extra to have the CORRECT Dewey AR-15/Ar-10 (6.5/6.8) Breech Rod Guide
shipped Next Business Day from Midway USA so I have something by Wednesday for my scheduled barrel break-in at the range.

Please advise ASAP, need to order the Dewey by tomorrow morning if the Wheeler wont work.

That does appear to be for a bolt action.

My rod guide came from Brownell’s and looks very similar to your .223 guide

That is a universal bore guide for bolt actions. Not a bad tool to have if you don't have one so you may want to keep it and have your vendor send you the AR 6.5 Grendel bore guide that as mentioned, looks similar to a 223/5.56 guide. I use the Possum Hollow bore guide for my AR 6.5 Grr. Works OK but I would bet the Satern Guide or others may work better. The Possum Hollow allows solvent back into the chamber unless I have the rifle tilted drastically toward the muzzle. My 5.56/223 bore guide, (10+ year old generic markings guide from Brownels), works much better.
I don't have the Wheeler but.......a quarter inch to mm is 6.35mm and if Wheeler is stating that the 6.8 jag won't work with their guide, then one would assume the 6.5 "MAY" not as well. Maybe someone here has tried it and can tell you yeah or nay but the differences between 6.8 and 6.5 are pretty slim as you most likely know.

Unfortunately I dont have a bolt action in a caliber that would work Luckily I bought it from amazon.com so returns are effortless.

Thanks for the prompt replies, gents. Gonna have to eat the expense of rapid shiping, I guess...dont want to take a chance the Wheeler is gonna epic-fail.

According to a Jerry Miculek video I watched, just use your disassembled BCG as a bore guide. I myself have the one you show on the right side of the 1st pic. I placed a short piece of rubber tubeing (same O.D. As the BCG) on the the back end of the Dewey bore guide. Works great.

I have the bore guide like your picture and I got mine from Brownell’s. My bore guide works good and was inexpensive. I don’t remember how it was listed for use with different calibers. I use this bore guide with a Dewey rod.

If I were buying today I’d buy the bore guide for the 6.8 SPC (.277) which would work with 6.5/.264.
