McGowan barrels

Anyone here have any experience with them. What I'ved read say its a crap shoot. You might get a good one or you might not. I really want a good ( middle of the road barrel ) price wise. Not an elite barrel but not a economy barrel. What say the herd?

Me and a friend shot Mcgowan Rem/Age Barrels on Remington 700's and their fantastic, no experience with them on the AR platform though.

Cannot say about it in an AR but in a custom 44 Mag bolt action full length stocked rifle it shoots pretty good.

Are you building a bolt action or an AR?
The company was kind of a pain to work with for me. I had one in another caliber and it shot ok I guess but nothing to write home about.
If you want a bolt middle-road go criterion.
If it's for an AR there are off the shelf ones, several, that will fill your bill.
But lately I have come to the conclusion that you need quality in 3 areas: barrel, trigger and optics.
I propose that we make this into "Grendel's first law":

Any barrel will cost you $350+, the "budget" ones have the extra costs burned in ammo, powder, time aggravation and travel back and forth, not to mention those who had to ship theirs back for a replacement...
You can spend more but you won't get away with less."

These are sammi spec chambered barrels and the only barrels are company's that make sammi chambered grendel barrels I will put my word on.

Anything cheaper are from unknown sources isn't worth the hassle and stress of "did I buy junk".

i have several in 6.5 grendel and one in creedmore. plus two in 5.56. i've had good luck with 5 out of six. the sort of poor one still shoots close to one moa.
mcgowan, proof, X-caliber, lilja, and one other that i cant think of are all within one hour of my house. i have friends that are able to get them at a good price sometimes.

I have 2 McGowen barreled uppers, 1 6 Grendel and 1 6CM. The 6 Grendel shoots sub 1/2 Moa all day long and the 6CM is a 1 hole shooter, both hammer at 600yrds. I would not hesitate to buy another. I have another 6CM on order right now.
