I thought this would make a good Grendel until I saw the weight.

When I first saw them advertised my thoughts were 6.5Grr or 6.8 SPC, but what they are going for I'm in no hurry and I think I'll wait till field reports start showing up.

I had the same idea. Turn one into a grendel. Then my local ffl guy told me the price and was like are these dudes crasy.

Ain't no way that's going to sell at that price.

Dont get me wrong the ?Prarie Hunter? is not what i would consider a grendel candidate either, but
1) Its a prairie gun, and typically weights not a big concern for that type of shooting (prairie dogs)
2) Cost. Im seeing it around for average $580ish. To me thats not a lot for a good savage

That must be a regional price. In my area every shop has them list at 650 and more.

Sportsman Outdoor superstore has them for $580. 'Course you need to add any shipping and $30 for the ffl transfer...
I'm not particularly interested, but that's just me.

edit: I do have this 110 hunter in a couple of calibers and it's a good package.

You are correct A5. I just didnt want anyone to think the $795 list price was the average lgs price.
Last Savage i bought from sportsman's guide ( an 11 Trophy, with scope), online, for was $515, plus shipping -$555
And the savage 12Fv can be had sometimes for $399 or even less if a rebates out

You can build a 6.5G if you have a PPC bolt face, but they are harder to obtain...I believe PTG is only company that sells them and they cost like $70, so Savage not a viable option for me for 6.5G and I had a bunch of Savage rifles.

I did a quick check and it looks like the bolt heads are easier to get now. I think Midway and Sharp Shooter Supply often have them.

I think that a bit of the high MSRP is that the 110 Prairie Hunter has the AccuFit stock what allows you to adjust length of pull and comb height.

If you are going to change the bolt and barrel anyway, you might be able to find a cheap donor.
