Figured I would chronicle my build here to ask questions/advice and also have a running thread.

This build started in my search for a new truck/deer gun. I really like my Ruger SR556E and it has been my go to truck gun for years now, but I wanted a little more out of a cartridge for a regular deer rifle. After researching and digging I ended up here and settled in the 6.5G. Then seeing the work you guys have done with 12” pistols I decided to roll with it and try one.

So far my build plan is as follows and I will update this original post as list develops.

Lower - Palmetto State - Bought from PSA (I will replace this with an Aero FDE and use it on another project)
LPK - Strike Industries Enhanced without Grip - ordered from Primary Arms - will our JP springs in trigger for now
Grip - Ergo with beaver tail
Trigger - Larue MBT or Elftman (Can’t decide single or two stage. I have mil spec with JP springs in my Ruger and it’s nice)
Brace - SB Tactical SBA3 Black - Bought on sale at Brownells
Buffer Spring and Buffer - I have no idea...
BCG - Fail Zero or Bootleg probably with a group buy bolt
End Plate - Anderson - Bought from Primary Arms
Castle Nut - Anderson - Bought from Primary Arms
Upper Receiver - Aero Precision FDE - Bought from Arm or Ally
Barrel - Monster 12” from BFT - Bought from group buy
Muzzle Device - VG6 6.5 - Bought from Arm or Ally
Gas Block - Superlative Arms
Gas Tube - just a melonite one from a reputable manufacturer
Handgaurd - Aero Atlas S-One 9” FDE or something similar FDE
Optics - Vortex or PA 1-8x24 in a QD mount and a Holosun or Aimpoint Red Dot in a QD mount

I want two optics and will swap them and a Nikon 3-9x40 in a QD mount I already have around between this pistol and my Ruger SR.

So guys I will gladly take any and all advice!

I buy my end plates from wish. They cost $1 shipped and work perfect.
I use a jpscs h2 as my buffer. It's not necessary but i love it. With an sbr the h2 works well for me.
Good looking list though. I love my larue trigger btw

One thing I would mention as a caution is about the lower.... as I understand it, if you are building a pistol the lower (which is the ffl licensed piece) needs to never have been a rifle lower. Best bet is to use a brand new lower for a pistol build. Later that lower can be switched to rifle and back to pistol if desired (again as I understand it, please check the rules yourself). But a lower that started life as a rifle can't be turned into a pistol.

I've got the Nikon 3-9x40 on mine eight now and like it a lot.

Yeah that's my understanding too and is why I bought the PSA lower in the first place. I've since decided to go FDE on receivers and handguard so I will start with a new Aero FDE lower.

I guess the PSA will just have to grow into something else...

Ordered Strike Industries lpk with fire control group today. Also go the rest of the parts for my lower except the ergo grip. I have an A2 laying around I will put on til I get the Ergo. I have an extra set of JP springs laying around for the trigger for now. I’ll probab end up with an MBT eventually though.

All I need is a buffer and spring to finish the lower completely. Any recommendations?
