So I put together my first Grendel for distance as I wanted to shoot out to 1000yds and hopefully be accurate. I used an Odin Works 20 barrel and bolt, Odin Works Adjustable low profile gas block, 20 Gas Tube, Odin Works Billet upper, Odin Works O2 lite forend, Odin Works Atlas Compensator, 80% lower, Larue MBT trigger, Luth stock, BCM lower parts kit, BCM Milspec Carbine stock mounting kit, Standard Millspec Carbine Buffer 2.9oz, BCM Ambidextrous charging handle and a Leupold VX-6 scope and ASC Magazines.
I checked the upper face and it was square and needed no work(I have since bought another billet upper from Odin Works and that one is also square) the barrel was a very tight fit and I did use AreoShell grease. The 80% lower was completed using the Modulus Arms Heavy Duty Universal Lower Receiver Jig, Not the first one I have done and will not be the last one, They are very easy to use. The rest of the build came together with no problems including the adjustable Gas block.
I originally put a Leupold VX-6 4-24x52 T-MOA scope on a one piece Leupold scope mount and used a Wheeler torque wrench to torque both to the recommended specs. I zeroed it at 100yds and it seemed to like Hornady and also Wolf.

It was time to stretch it out and see what it could do, I had joined a shooting range that had a 1000yd range and it was there that I went next. There were a couple of folks already shooting when I got there they were very welcoming and when I told them this was my first time shooting to 1000yds they were a lot of help. The first thing I found out about my setup was I did not have enough adjustment in my elevation to get me to 1000yds just over 800yds was my max. The second thing I found out was the wind can mess you up lol. With help from the other shooters spotting for me I found the holdover to get me to the 1000yd target and also for the wind which was gusting to 10mph left to right and I was able to make some hits on the target. All in all it was a good day and I learnt a lot about distance shooting and reading the wind.

As I drove home I realized there were a few things I needed, A 20MOA mount, A decent front rest(one of the other shooters told me to use his and it made a difference to me) and good spotting scope so I could see my hits as I shoot alone most of the time as I shoot mid-week. When I got home I ordered a The Sinclair Heavy Varmint Shooting Rest and an AADMOUNT 20 moa mount. While I was waiting for my orders to come in I was looking at spotting scopes and decided to see what was available on the used market. While perusing different sites I came across what I thought to be a great deal on a one year old MARCH 8X-80X56mm 1/8 MOA Adjustment MTR-1 Illuminated scope, It is probably more scope than I will ever need but I had been looking at scopes for my next build and was thinking I would spend around $2k as I need good clear glass as I have had macular degeneration for the past 20 years and it will not get any better. So I bit the bullet and bought it. Once I had received all my latest buys and put the AADMOUNT and scope on and re-zeroed to 100yds i headed back to the 1000yd range. Now I could dial in the distance to 1000yds with no problem and I could see my hits and misses but still had to combat a wind gusting up to 15mph.
Now I just need to tighten my groups up lol,
