Very good experiment, using gel block, gel block with deer hide, and gel block with elk hide and cow bone to examine 4 different bullets.

Neat! When do we get to see such an ultra-slow motion video of 6.5 Grendel with 123gr SMK, 120gr TSX...and 110gr FMJ?

Be glad to...just pony up the cost of an 8000 FPS camera and I'll head right off to the range!!
BUT...this gives a pretty good idea of the TSX vs SMK, because the Game King is very similar (thicker jacket is the only difference, if I remember correctly, but don't hold me to that!). I think the FMJ would be interesting, but sail right through the blocks!

A buddy of mine started loading the Barnes X a few years ago for his Ar15 in 5.56mm, he heard they got good penetration and had excellent expansion. Well, he found out at least the first one was true. I want to say he was using a 70 grain and he had moly coated it. Don't know the powder load. He shot a young 4x4 from about 75 yards in the mid-chest, head-on. We found the exit hole in the right buttock. We found that after it had traversed the high chest cavity it had travelled up and followed the spinal column (lost a loin damnit). It cut about a half inch wide trench along the spine right up to the exit hole. I was impressed with a head-on through and through with a .224 diameter bullet that looked like it doubled in diameter with expansion. We didn't find the bullet obviously but we also didn't find any copper frag during the processing.
I was very impressed and have wanted to load them for years. Now that I've built a Grendel, I'm thinking of trying them out.

Great job Hoot, yet I found out recently, After the freedom group bought barnys that it's a compete clause issue?- federal may not load the barnys anymore.,,,,,,, Well, most of us roll our own cartridges- so it is not a cry-tear moment. That tipped trophy bonded looks awesome!!!! I'll have to get some bullets in 6.5--.270 and set upon a new mission,. btw. toolsoftrade has some 129 Horn. Interbonds that closely mimic the trophy's.= $44.00 per 100 fum powder valley . Federal claimed to have a 120 & 140 deep curl on the market in 2010., to replace the hotcor units. Where are they... Atk-federal seems to be adjusting to the market, slow moving- old codgers that won't adapt to modern times.
