I posted this over on ARFCOM too, but since this board is specifically geared to Grendels input from the horde would be great.

I know this is subjective, but thought I would ask anyway. I am looking for some opinions of people that have both UBR and PRS stocks on some precision rifles.

I have a 6.5 Grendel running a 20" barrel, 15" rail, bipod, etc... Needless to say it is already on the portly side. That being stated, the weight of either stock is not really a concern for me. I have tried an ACS-L and an ACS on (and even had one of my STR's) on it just for feel. I liked all of them, the cheek weld felt really good to me. Yet another "time for another tweak customization" on my rifle came up. Those "one more thing and it'll be done" moments never really seem to apply or stick. I had always thought I would use either an UBR or PRS on the project but could not decide on which.

I have acquired an new UBR. I have not mounted it, but on looking at it out of the box I like the way this stock is designed (then again, I like Magpul and expected this to be the case). I had originally wanted a PRS because it could be adjusted and would allow a little more fitting of the rifle to me. This is due to the optic/mount I am using right now. That of course is subject to change. For now, the gun is a lot of bench shooting just to see what my project is capable of, but that is not always going to be the case.

The question(s) is(are), what do you feel is the benefit of one or the other? Have you swapped for one out for the other? Does the PRS's adjustability really offer that much? I have a feeling the weight factor of either will actually balance the rifle out nicely. The consensus will probably be get both and that will probably be the case when I go to do another build. For right now I am wondering if I keep the UBR or cycle it out for a PRS.

I have not used the UBR but do have PRS's on two different rigs and really like them. On one, I have taken advantage of the lower mount and installed a mono pod. The other gets a rear bag used on it. The adjust ability of the PRS is preferable to me as well due to my small frame and the adjustments make the stocks fit me very well. As for weight, that was not a concern either. All of the builds in my stable are heavy so the stock fits right in.

I haven't owned a UBR but I have played with them some. I have a PRS on a 18" grendel and love it for bench and field shooting where walking isn't going to be done. I love the fit and feel of the PRS, the adjustments are great and I get the length of pull and check weld I want for scope height. The UBR is well built but just doesnt have the adjustment the PRS has. Just my 2cents

I built my Grendel with a UBR stock and I do really like it. I considered the PRS but for my purposes I did not need or want the amount of adjustment the PRS offered. Since the comb of the UBR is fixed, whether the stock is extended or collapsed, I can maintain a consistent cheek weld and eye relief with my scope. This can be said of the PRS as well but I wanted a stock that could reduce the overall length of my rifle. They are both fine stocks but, like most things, there is always a trade off; I opted for a little more compactness.

Great info, thanks to everyone so far. Hopefully some more will come in. I know all is preference and/or opinion, but that is exactly what I asked for and appreciate getting it.

tplace, you and I are running the same rails. I think mine may be older though, because it lacks the bigger triangular hole up at the muzzle end. BTW, I like that bipod you are running.

I have used both and prefer the PRS. I am running the same setup as you (20" barrel and 15" hand guard). In my situation, the extra weight of the PRS over the UBR helped the overall balance of the rifle and gave a feeling of lightening the front end. I also use the PRS on a 18" SPR build. Love them.

Well, so far everything seems to confirm what I was thinking. I originally wanted a PRS and now it looks like I will should probably go with my first instinct. If I don't it, will probably end up bugging me until I end up going the way I originally wanted to go. I guess I will look for a swap which may take a while (I want to stick with the FDE color).
