I'm not sure if this is old but Red X Arms is coming out with a line of 6.5 Grendel uppers. They currently have a stripped type 2 bolt for 45.00

They are still showing 14.5" 6.5 Grendel barrels by Sabre Defense in stock, these barrels are sold with no gas block or Flash Hider attached for $200. That is very tempting price, I can feel the onset of more black rifle disease.

Did Sabre Defence really chamber barrels "type II"? I thought they were out of the business before all the chamber variants started popping up.

Type II is referring to the headspacing. It is the correct .136" bolt depth. I can't recall offhand why it's type II

I got a Sabre Defense 14.5 pinned upper from Red X Arms about a year ago, Red x shipped fast, great deal and I've been happy with the way it shoots. Now it's not as accurate as my 24" AA overwatch, but it's light and with a red dot sight we ( my 12 year son and me) can ring a 8" steel gong at 165yds all day. I have tried switching bolts and BCGs, uppers and lowers with no problems, I think the Sabre Defense stuff still out there is good stuff and I might try to pick up some more of it it the price is right.

These Type I and Type II misnomers emerged many years after the 6.5 Grendel was introduced, and we first saw the terms from BHW, to denote whether they had used a .124" bolt face recess, or a .136".

AA has been using .136" bolt face recess on the Beowulf and 6.5 Grendel for well over a decade now, but new customers or observers to the cartridge see "Type I" and "Type II" as some type of legitimate method for determining bolt dimensions.

Additionally, a 6.5 Grendel bolt is longer, and is specified dimensionally and structurally from scratch, from materials, metallurgy, finish machining, and tempering, to surface treatments. It is done specifically to work optimally with the thicker case rim from the 220/PPC lineage, including the unique extractor geometry and metallurgy.

We as customers are best served when the barrel maker chambers based on a known bolt face and lug length set of specific dimensions. In the last year and a half, we have seen some after market quality bolt manufacturers come online with 9130 AQ bolts, made to the same dimensions as the AA bolts.

As many have learned with bolts that were made without consideration for the PPC-based case, firing pin protrusion, extractor, dimensions, and metallurgy, it pays to get a bolt made correctly.

I ordered a Sabre barrel from red X that turned out to be basically throatless. Couldn't fire anything loaded anywhere near factory length with out wild pressure problems and blown primers. I attempted many, many times to contact them over the course of a month and a half but they did not once respond to my calls or emails. I honestly wasn't expecting much, if anything, from them but their non-existent customer service has guaranteed they will not receive another penny from me.

I replaced the barrel with one from Precision Firearms made from a Sabre blank that was finished chambered, head spaced, threaded and melonited to my specifications for just $75 more than what I paid for the barrel from red x.

It may be a crap shoot but my barreled upper allowed loads to be loaded fairly far out. The only "issue" I had was the shoulder was toward the minimum spec whereas my 18" was toward the maximum. It shoots all factory ammo with great hunting accuracy 1-1.5 MOA

I am sorry to say this is not uncommon with them. they have great pricing, but a few years ago I ordered something listed as in stock and 2 weeks later nothing had shipped. tried over and over to contact them as a week after my order the site said out of stock. Never got a response for 2 weeks of emails just asking for an update. I finally sent an email asking to cancel my order and got a response 1hr later. Friends of mine have placed orders and had them ship same day. One has had feed issues with his 556 barrel, others have had no issues and super happy..

I ordered a 24" 556 barrel from them, shipped next day, got here looked great, but shot terrible, I ran everything from 55grain to 77grain pills in all sorts of lengths and powder loads. Finally got one to shoot MOA, sold that a while back. I only use Redx for basic stuff like uppers recievers, magpull sights, gas tubes, gas blocks, etc..
