I was looking for some guidence on an upcoming hunt. I had planned on taking my oldest son(20) and one of his friends to Texas for a hog hunt. I have a co-worker that leases land NW of Denton, TX. (My company has a facility near there, I'm from Iowa). But ever since the dry weather started down there, the hogs are few to none. He used to have loads of them on his game cams, now none. Never stopped feeding, just not enough mudd for them I guess.
Anyway, looking for ideas for a place to go that won't break the bank. Just looking to shoot a few. Get some meat and have a good time. (never deboned a pig before, I know I can at least get the "backstrap")
Its not a real big deal but would like to take my boy, otherwise its a long weekend of serious coyote calling. Was planning March 21st-24th. Its spring break for my son. Just looking for ideas, thanks.

Stasney's Cook Ranch used to have very reasonable pig hunts. I don't know if they still do them but you could always google that ranch.
If for whatever reason you are unable to find a good place to hunt pigs, and still want to make productive use of that weekend, consider attending my Designated Marksmen Course, which will be on March 23-24th just outside of Price, Utah, on one of the coolest range complexes in the country.
I know that it isn't exactly what you're looking for, but it will involve a ton of shooting on steel targets from mostly 200-600yds in various scenario-based drills and practical exercises that will only help make you a better shooter, and extend your practical effective range with your blasters.

There are quite a few listings on craigslist for hunting hogs. $125 range. Some of which are guns and night vision provided you only pay for excessive use of ammo
Ever want to take a trip down to SC look up hog hunting in Estill, SC. Some traces of Russian Boar still down there, no just feral pigs. We have killed some monsters.

Carnuts-good find, when are you 2 going down there?
Not totally sure yet, looking at September-November time frame. Never hunted hogs and we don't what the best time of the year is for that.

The rainy season brings out the boars. They like it wet because they can't sweat. Also if you see piglets tracks that's when you hunt piglets don't know any better and get momma in trouble
