My new/first Grendel

Picked up a new AA 16" Tactical rifle a little while back to use as a hunting/plinking rig. I wanted something fairly light and maneuverable, so the 16" Tactical seemed like a natural. I have run 450 rounds through it so far and am very happy with it.

As it came to me (internet dealer pic):



I then added the following:

WCI muzzle brake
Daniel Defense Omega 9.0 Rail
Magpul MOE+ grip
Wilson Combat TTU 2 Stage trigger
H3 Buffer (a necessity in my case)
Mako/Fab Defense butt stock
BCM Gunfighter charging handle
Mueller Tac II 3-10x44 scope in a Nikon M-223 mount - Not to be confused with the Chinese Muellers, the Tac II is all Japanese glass and construction and a very nice scope for the coin.

I have a custom elevation turret on order for the Tac II from Kenton Industries, once I receive it I will call this rifle done for now.

As previously stated, I bought this rifle primarily to hunt with as well as doing some plinking out to 600 yards on paper and steel. Should serve it's purpose quite well IMO. It's nothing special, just a solid/functional rifle that will be carried afield and put meat on the table.

Cool little blaster. Does that Fab Defense stock have the recoiling mechanism in it?

That is a really nice looking rifle.

The AR platform is really cool because of all the accessories and upgrades you can get. I just got mine put together and I am already thinking of things to add, change, or mods to make to parts I already have.

Thanks for the compliments. I ended up dumping more money into the rifle accessorizing than planned, but in the end I'm happy and that's all that matters. Money well spent in my eyes.

Does that Fab Defense stock have the recoiling mechanism in it?

It's the GL-Shock stock and yes it does. It was originally on a different rifle and in need of a home, so I put it on the Grendel. Certainly not necessary on a light recoiling rifle like a Grendel, but nice nonetheless. The stock is not a gimmick, it really works as advertised and is a quality piece, very well made.

kewl this is the first time ive heard of that stock. I like it ill have to check into it for future builds. I have a Daniels Defense rail on one of my other rifles i like it. Well made. Still i think Daniels Defense rapes people including me for the price they sell those things for, but what can you do lol. Good lookin stick i dont think its going to have a bit of problem putting some venison and maybe some hog meat on the table.

The DD rails are priced about right when you look at machine time and compare them to other quality FF quad rails on the market. Also take into account that they have military NSN handguards for the SOPMOD Block II program, so there is a lot of money that went into meeting a set of stringent requirements.

They also have a tubular FF tube now, to compete with Troy, as does Midwest Industries. Those are in the $200 region for rifle-length, with the MI versions being priced the best right now, and the lightest ones as well.

Nice conversion. The beauty of the AR platform, whatever your taste or requirements, it can be made into unlimited configurations.

It would be cool to see that carbine being fired on video, with some 123gr Factory AMAX, to get an idea of how the stock performs with the Grendel.

Don't have a video cam, but I could measure the amount of stock compression under recoil the next time I'm out.

Ran another 140 rounds of Wolf MPT through it this morning. Had a blast. Went very early to beat the heat, it was still damn hot. Only had to re-tighten the WCI brake 3 times

Got Rocksett holding the brake on now, it's not going anywhere. Should've used it right from the get-go.

The accuracy of this little rifle with the Wolf continues to impress me considering MPT isn't exactly match grade ammo.

Nice rifle. Great choice on the WC 2-stage trigger. Addicted to mine.
