Just getting started....first range trip was today.

Pile of stuff has keep me out the woods and off the rifle ranges for the last few years.



Today...however....I found my way back.


Sure felt great.

I simply ran a box of ammo through a couple guns to ensure they functioned well and to zero scopes.

Only went to 25 yds as time was short.


Guns ran well.....and would have likely run better had I remember to bring my rest or at least some bags. Found a couple wood blocks to use and got it done.

Grendel brass took a beating.


Every case had same dent and same fang marks on the neck.










Checked everything later on. Couldn't find any sharp edges or culprits for the neck fangs. Wiped off the brass marks on the defector....assuming that's where the dents came from.

Was only a quick session.....but it sure feels good to be shooting again.

Not yet.

I looked around in there expecting to see a tiny vampire ??*?? that was biting the necks, lol.

Nothing obvious to me. I am almost AR-ignorant, though.

That is my first one.

I say that as if there will be another one.

My passion is 1911 pistols…..and everyone warned me the M1A would become another addiction.

It really felt good shooting it. I had on muffs over plugs. Not sure how obnoxious that little pepperbox brake was to other shooters beside me. Didn’t bother me a bit.


I also bought a bare walnut stock that I will finish in tung oil. I’d like to swap it with the current stock.

I like the current stock as well….will be perfect if I hunt with it this year….polymer won’t object if it gets some bumps along the way……and it can’t hurt being camo, right ?


I have a bedding kit for the walnut stock.

Just need the time to do the project.

I did use the same mag throughout the session.

I never did give it an inspection ??. I will take a look and see.

I did get the bipod installed.

Hopefully I remember to take my rear bags , too
